The best photographs are often the ones you never saw coming. Because there is so little warning, you need a film that can handle a wide variety of available light and motion, indoors or out, without losing subtleties in color, sharpness, and skin tone. Kodak Professional Portra 400-speed films give you that flexibility. You can freeze the action, stop down for extra depth of field, or pick up added detail in shadow areas.
In addition to all the benefits of a faster speed, you also get strikingly fine grain. So you can shoot with confidence whether you choose Portra film NC for natural color or Portra 400VC film for vivid color.

When you want fun and vibrant color photos, Kodak Portra 400VC is the way to go. It does give a less natural look than Kodak's NC line, but it all matters on what you are aiming for. If you want great portraits I recommend NC over VC. I always use this film for my Holga because its 400 ISO has great versatility, and its color and tone makes photos pop. Kodak just announced the discontinuation of Portra 400VC and 400NC, because of a new line of Portra 400 film that's supposed to be somewhere in the middle of the two (although I assume it will be closer to 400NC). The new film "is the world's finest grain high-speed color negative film." So apparently it's better than before. Either way, I know I will be stocking up on 400VC and NC before December 2010 (when they will stop selling it). FYI, 160VC and NC are still in production (as of now...)

I used this product simply to try it out and see how it compared to other Kodak films. Sharpness is good and from a normal viewing distance, grain in the prints is not really noticeable. The 400VC film did well, except on overcast days. Even in this 'Vivid Color' film, the colors were more muted than in other Kodak films (On Overcast days). Although I was hesitant to use this film for pictures of people, as it is the 'VC' version, I did take one, and it came out surprisingly well. The skin tones were actually very close to reality. Overall, the film seems suited best to people, animals, and general outdoor areas where the sun is not directly shining.

Comments about Kodak Portra-400VC 120 Professional Color Print Film (ISO-400):
I just got back from a week of shooting in NYC. I used several brands and types of film in my Mamiya M645 but when it came time to scan the negs the Porta-400VC stood out. The colors and clarity were great, especially for a 400 ISO.

Comments about Kodak Portra-400VC 120 Professional Color Print Film (ISO-400):
Now that Kodak decided to scrap the VC and NC and just go for a straight 400 (supposedly "highly scannable", whatever that means for us traditional darkroom divas) I had to stock up on this just like I did with polaroid. I have been using 400VC for years and I just love the tones and colors as well as the flexibility of this film, I can use it in any situation and it always delivers beautiful and with my old camera with leaks, some times surprising images. Would recommend you stock up too.

I normally use 400 NC, but thought I'd give this a try to photograph an Eagle Scout ceremony. Although a bit too much color for me, the photos still look very professional and I'm pleased with them as well as the customer.

Comments about Kodak Portra-400VC 120 Professional Color Print Film (ISO-400):
I really like this film. Ive tried both fugi film and kodak NC film, but only the VC film gets me the spectacular color that i want. Ive used this film both inside and outside and get great results. I've also scanned in my negatives and haven't seen grain until I blow it up to be about 24 x 24 inches. I've been interested in trying 220 mostly because its allows you to take more photos. I use it with a hasselblad camera and you get 12 exposures with the 6x6 backing. The only trouble is that i wish that it allowed for more exposers per role, especially for the price.
Comments about Kodak Portra-400VC 120 Professional Color Print Film (ISO-400):
This film is only so-so when I shoot it at 400, but when I pull it a 1/3 or 1/2 a stop, the colors just pop and look gorgeous!
