Comments about Manfrotto 420CSUNS Convertible Boom Stand with Steel Base:
I now own two of these and they are great for booming a speedlight setup VERY high or as a stable normal use boom for studio strobes when properly counterweighted. They are not cushioned which just means you have to be careful when adjusting it, other than that I have no complaints.
They are just heavy enough to withstand wind without becoming hard to transport.

Comments about Manfrotto 420CSUNS Convertible Boom Stand with Steel Base:
I use this boom stand for mounting a hair light and I am so pleased that I made this purchase.
This is a better buy than I thought with the fact that it doubles as a regular stand as well and is heavy duty. It is rugged and wonderfully designed.
If I needed a second boom stand, I'll buy this one again in a heart beat

Comments about Manfrotto 420CSUNS Convertible Boom Stand with Steel Base:
It's a little heavy, but you need heavy for a boom.
I used it with an octabank and it did the job with ease.

Comments about Manfrotto 420CSUNS Convertible Boom Stand with Steel Base:
This boom is fairly sturdy, because of it's steel base. You will need about 20 or 25 lbs of counterweight depending on what you are putting on it. It is a good all-around medium duty boom stand.
