Hoya 86mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter
Circular Polarizer - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
NOTE: Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems and video cameras without problems).
- This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays to remove haze from outdoor shots as well as polarizing the light to remove reflections, and increase color saturation, without affecting the overall color balance

I ordered this Hoya just in time to try it out in Destin, Fl. on the beach. Yes, the proper adjustment of the filter does make the sky much bluer, ect.
So, I was at the beach taking pictures. The Hoya was attached to my SIGMA 150-500mm lens as I was walking around the beach taking pictures of the waves, etc.
As I was walking back to my site I noticed that a large black dish like thing was not only laying on the beach, but the wave activity was washing this disk back and forth. I just thought maybe someone lost something. They did. It was my brand new Hoya that had somehow come loose from the lens!!! No tellin' how long it had been their washing back and forth. Ok, so , I picked it up just like it was and just headed to the room and put it under a gentle wash of plain water under the sink. Cringe ! Then I gently wiped it off the best I could with a softest towel I could find (cringe!). Later that evening I was able to use a real camera lens cleaning solution. If there are any scratches, I can not find any. If there are then they must be microscopic. Looks fine to me - still using it. No problems that I can detect. I honestly can not find any scratches anywhere on the Filter.
