The compact Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3 with a 2.6'/80cm cable is a remote shutter release which is designed to prevent camera shake for super telephoto shots, macro photography and bulb exposures. Handy for taking pictures of subjects that are difficult to approach, or to minimize vibration for close-ups and time exposure.
The Remote Switch works just like a shutter button, enabling halfway or complete pressing. It also has a shutter-release lock. With the EOS-3's Custom Function No. 12 (mirror lockup), camera shake can be further reduced.
Compatible with EOS-3, 1v HS/1v, 1D-series, 1Ds-series, 5D-series, 7D, 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, and D30.
Note! Only compatible in still mode. Will not trigger the camera in video mode.

When my Canon TC-80N3 timer remote suddenly died recently I decided to replace it with this timerless RS-80N3. I did this because in 5 years of heavy professional use I had never once used the timer function of the original, far more expensive, TC-80N3.
Comments have been made in other reviews about the construction of the RS. It's virtually the same as the far more expensive TC-80N3, less the timer. Same durability. The plug locks onto the camera until you tug on the locking collar; it's simple and very effective. Other inexpensive third party remote releases don't have this locking plug. This feature should certainly be one of the main incentives to choose the Canon-made RS-80N3 over similarly priced third party alternatives.

I like this, it is simple & does the job without spending a few hundred dollard for the wireless version. But...They really need to make this cord 5ft long. 2.6 ft does not allow me to set up the camera and place a chair nearby waiting for the right moment. It is difficult to use while waiting because your arm is held at length.

Comments about Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3:
This is the second copy of the product I use (the first one served well for 3 years and probably would continue to serve, but I lost it). So, without hesitation, I ordered another one.
The product is easy to use, compact, and I haven't see durability issues noted in some reviews. The only which I have is for a longer cord. Otherwise, no complains.

I really don't have any complaints. It works, though I would recommend getting the extension cable to go with it.

Bought this to replace the seven dollar Vello one that just kept falling out at the wrong times.
Seems better. Still cheaply made for the price. The ones for the Nikons are smaller and more durable than what is available for Canons.

Comments about Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3:
I used this to take some shots at a bar & grill that's dark most of the time...it worked just like I thought it would. I set my camera to shoot via remote, set the camera on a tripod as was recommended, dialed in my settings and started taking shots. The shots came out clearer than previous shots I had taken without a tripod and remote.

Fits like a glove. Bought a knock off sometimes it worked others not so much. Still canon products are overpriced for a simple on/off switch.

I don't know how I got along without this remote switch in the past. It is reasonably priced to its competitors and works as described. The colr length is just right and doesn't tangle on the tripod. I would highly recommend this product to anyone needing a basic remote.

There is nothing to comment here. An excellent product from a reputable company (it's from Canon, not Lexmark!) Does what I expected it to do and what is stated in the manual.

Having also spent money on a cheap knock-off version, this product gives you what you pay for - quality. This is especially evident when you connect/disconnect from the camera.

I purchased the Canon RS-80N3 remote shutter release for use in taking macro shots and low light shots. The product works perfectly. I just plugged it in and starting shooting. Sharper photos are the result. Very useful.

Recently purchased this remote switch for my Canon DSLR and I have been very happy with it. Very easy and straightforward to use. Plugs right in and no need to screw anything in -- ready to go. And, it is easy to remove. It is a simple remote and is simple to use as well.

Great remote. Cheap and easy to use. Beats the timer built in camera with ease of use. Only draw back cord could be longer. The 2.6 feet wire is just to short. Consider buying the extension cable sold on this site canon et-1000n3 cord to accompany remote to avoid disappointment.

If you photograph anything with your tripod and slow shutter or bulb exposure this is a good piece to use in place of a electronic release "ex Pocket Wizard Multi Max". Fits into your pocket and lightweight.
