The compact Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3 with a 2.6'/80cm cable is a remote shutter release which is designed to prevent camera shake for super telephoto shots, macro photography and bulb exposures. Handy for taking pictures of subjects that are difficult to approach, or to minimize vibration for close-ups and time exposure.
The Remote Switch works just like a shutter button, enabling halfway or complete pressing. It also has a shutter-release lock. With the EOS-3's Custom Function No. 12 (mirror lockup), camera shake can be further reduced.
Compatible with EOS-3, 1v HS/1v, 1D-series, 1Ds-series, 5D-series, 7D, 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, D30, D60, and D2000.
Note! Only compatible in still mode. Will not trigger the camera in video mode.

When my Canon TC-80N3 timer remote suddenly died recently I decided to replace it with this timerless RS-80N3. I did this because in 5 years of heavy professional use I had never once used the timer function of the original, far more expensive, TC-80N3.
Comments have been made in other reviews about the construction of the RS. It's virtually the same as the far more expensive TC-80N3, less the timer. Same durability. The plug locks onto the camera until you tug on the locking collar; it's simple and very effective. Other inexpensive third party remote releases don't have this locking plug. This feature should certainly be one of the main incentives to choose the Canon-made RS-80N3 over similarly priced third party alternatives.

I like this, it is simple & does the job without spending a few hundred dollard for the wireless version. But...They really need to make this cord 5ft long. 2.6 ft does not allow me to set up the camera and place a chair nearby waiting for the right moment. It is difficult to use while waiting because your arm is held at length.

For macro work, and slow shutter speeds on a tripod, this is a must have accesssory for the Canon 5D. The modern version of the old cable release. Works flawlessly.

Comments about Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3:
A cable release is a must-have accessory for anyone wanting razor sharp images. This Canon remote release is sold at B&H for a little over half what it sells for in my local camera shop. I use it with my 7D whenever I mount it on a tripod. The lock feature allows long exposures and the cable length is sufficient enough to view the image with the rear screen. Over-all, just what I expected at a very good price and rapid delivery. Thanks again to B&H.

Comments about Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3:
It works well. I sort of wish the cord was shorter (like 6" or so). It seems like I'm always fishing around trying to find the end. I did wrap it in velcro along with a leg of my tripod so now it's eazier to find it without looking. Seems a bit high priced for what you get. But what doesn't in this hobby?

Considering it's a Canon-branded item, I think the price is right. I do wish the cable was a bit longer and the release a bit smaller – but it does what it's supposed to!

Seriously. Whatever kind of photography you do — from architecture to landscapes, portraits, products and more — a remote will help you get sharper pictures and help save your back in the process (no more bending over to squint through the viewfinder).

Having just procured an EOS 7 D I needed a reliable remote release and this Canon product didn't disappoint. It is robust and effective and worthy of the Canon name. I just wish they would stick to a single product style as this is different from my release for my 1000D - it isn't rocket science! and would endear customers more!

Comments about Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3:
I am from Canada and ordered this product, along with an LP-E6 battery pack for Canon, an 8Gb extreme compact flash card and a quick-release plate for my Gitzo tripod, from B&H. The products perfectly met my needs and the order processing and delivery service from B&H was excellent, even though my order was of small scale. This is my second very satisfactory experience with B&H. I was able again to see that there is no small client for B&H.

Comments about Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3:
Works great. I use it with the camera either in mirror lock or switch the camera into live view, then push the remote release. Like traditional cable releases it tends to slip into shutter lock mode accidentally - a pain. Simply taping a piece of wooden matchstick into the gap to keep the lock from sliding takes care of it, since I never use the locking feature anyway.
