The Daryl Benson Cokin P Reverse Neutral Density Graduated Filter (3 Stops) from Singh-Ray is a unique and very effective way to control the balance of your foreground and an ultra-bright horizon line. This filter is designed to maintain control, i.e. hold back, the brightness of an excessively bright horizon area while allowing for more detail to be captured in the sky and foreground.
The unique aspect of this filter is that unlike traditional graduated neutral density filters, it is clear at the bottom. However, in the middle, where your bright horizon line normally falls, it begins to graduate towards the top in one, two or three stops options. In this way, you can actually control that very bright sunrise by holding back the brightness of the horizon while maintaining detail in the dark foreground. As with many Singh-Ray filters, the Daryl Benson filter can be used in conjunction with other Singh-Ray filters.
Often it is necessary or desirable to balance the light intensity in one part of a scene with another. This is especially true in situations where you don't have total light control, as in bright contrasty landscapes. Exposing for the foreground will produce a washed-out, over-exposed sky while exposing for the sky will leave the foreground dark and under-exposed. This filter enables cloud detail to be kept correctly exposed in the picture.
Determining which graduated neutral density filter yields ideal results for any given lighting situation takes knowledge, experience and a collection of such filters. Choose the filter strength which adjusts the lighting to stay within the exposure latitude (greatest difference between bright/dark values) which still shows details in both of the digital or film medium in use.

Comments about Singh-Ray Daryl Benson Reverse Neutral Density Graduated Filter (3 Stops):
Singh-Ray filters always get high reviews, and now I know why. They are incredible! The reverse ND takes a little getting used to, but works magic during sunrises and sunsets. Take care with these resin filters as they scratch rather easily. As long as you do that, you won't be disappointed with the neutral density and optical clarity of these filters.

I got this because of an upcoming trip to the Grand Canyon; wanted to catch those sunrises and sunsets. I have just started to play with it. I took it to the beach for a sunset at low tide. Love the result. I should have bought this years ago.

I used this filter yesterday for first time, having only recently received it. Fits Cokin P holder nicely, and while I need some practice using it, so far I like the effect for landscape photos. Four star rating only because I am really too new to it to give full review.

Comments about Singh-Ray Daryl Benson Reverse Neutral Density Graduated Filter (3 Stops):
Before I bought this ND grad, I had scratched up my 2-stop soft transition filter, so I had to replace it. I figured that in addition to the replacement, I'd pick this up. It works similarly to a hard transition ND grad, and I'm finding that I'm using it more often than my 2-stop grads. I'm not exactly sure the reverse grad does that much good, but I think I'd buy this again.

This filter works great and has exactly the right graduation and density for my needs to photograph sunsets in California during winter time. The filter is delivered in a leather pouch to protect it from scratches, this is very handy and an added benefit.

Comments about Singh-Ray Daryl Benson Reverse Neutral Density Graduated Filter (3 Stops):
This does an excellent job of holding back the bright sunlight during a sunrise or sunset, yet still allowing you to get good color on the foreground without having to use HDR. Use it when the sun is low or even when just the sunlight is very bright near the horizon and you'll get great color without washed out skies. A carrying case is included.

Comments about Singh-Ray Daryl Benson Reverse Neutral Density Graduated Filter (3 Stops):
Since the edge transition is a little more distinct than a regular soft grad, this filter is easier to line up with the horizon when it is dark outside. Use it regularly with consistently excellent results. Can save time since you have less need for bracketing and less work during post production merging multiple exposures. The filter is not heavy and comes in a nice protective pouch. Color cast is minimal compared to filters from some other brands. Worth the investment.

This is perfect for landscape where there a defining horizon line when one wants make pictures in fast changing light. Blocks the bright horizon to reveal the blues and pattern in the clouds. Foreground is left alone without any colour tint (No megenta / Orange patch to be corrected later on GIMP). Not Suitable when a object(s) protrude/s vertically into the frame (like a tree / Rock / house ) from the bottom. This is a great quality product (Neutral colours and great build with extra length for flexibility.. believe me, the extra length helps !). The packaging is second to none. It costs a pretty penny, but if used properly is worth every bit. It is always in my backpack on trails and treks. Works well without vignetting on all my P645NII glass (33-55 included, albeit with the front slot of the Cokin-P cut). Lovely chromes/pixels guaranteed. I use this when I know multi-frame-HDR wont work (or may need plenty of time on the PC, when I rather spend more time in the wild) esp in a trying out a composition involving dynamic elements (Swimming-flying birds, boats, Waves, flowers-in-the-wind etc)

This is a "go-to" filter for landscape shooters. While digital blending is always an option, I prefer to get as close to the finished shot as possible in a single frame. The reverse grad puts the darkest portion right where you need it leaving the sky at the edge of the frame untouched. While this fits in a Cokin "P" holder, I just hand hold it in front of my lens. Works like a champ. This isn't a cheap $20 filter but it's worth every penny.

The reverse 3-stop ND filter allows me to take pictures when the sun is close to the horizon without darken the sky too much.
