I needed a window mount for my 70-200 VR II and my Nikon Prostaff spotting scope. Being a Nikon junkie I felt I should purchase this windown mount instead of other brands. I looked at the photo on BH Photo's website but couldn't tell a whole lot about the mount.
When I received it I was surprised at the quality of the mount for the low price paid. This is truly a very good quality piece of gear for the money.

This car window mount supposedly by Nikon seems to be the same one offered by Giottos; only diff., the plate/stage the camera screws onto on the Giottos is rounded at the corners and the brands are printed on the mount. I used it for the first time (this week) on the driver's side window of my Ford Explorer with a Nikon DSLR/500mm telephoto (sun shade attached.)Was in Merritt Island Nat'l Wildlife Ref.,Florida on Bio-Lab Road (lime-rock) photoing wading birds. I can say that the mount is not very substantial and I had to literally hold the camera at the connection point to the mount as I drove along, point-point, travelling at a speed of 5mph or less, otherwise the camera vibrated and jiggled. Also, the most annoying part was that the plate the camera screws onto kept loosening and the camera would turn loosely. Therefore had to take the camera off (with the telephoto and sunshade) and tighten the wing screw 3 times on the plate. This piece is a pain; sorry I bought it. I will now absorbed the cost and go buy one, more substantial and it'll be worth the $$ if I get a good one. Also the plate that screws onto the camera is smaller than the plate that came with my Nikon camera. Why can't the plate be a universal fit??????

Driving on Skyline Drive in Virginia, used it while photographing cyclists on the move. Used in conjunction with camera's Live View and a remote shutter control. Held heavy camera rock steady; will add to my travel kit.

Using this on a video shoot with a Panasonic HD100 video camera. Shoots into the car with w/a lens attachment, Beachtek sound box and Audio Technica shot gun on the floor. Surprisingly stable with the car in motion.

Because, window tripods I have used in the past have been light-weight and cheaply made, I have gone with-out one for quite some time. This one from Nikon excellent.

I was looking for a car window mount to use with long lenses on the ranch. Sales person showed me several and the Nikon product was my choice. It is easy to use, works as specified, and stores as a neat package. Large glass area and large camera mount base make for rock solid stability.

I have a large NIKON telephoto lens which by hand is heavy and hard to handle. This NIKON Window Mount was just the thing I needed to take shots from my pickup truck side window. Sturdy and well made - simple and easy to use.
