This dark cloth is a good functional size for use with a 4x5 camera, and it makes a great rain cover in a sudden shower, but it's also fairly heavy and bulky for field use. I bought mine in about 2003, and the black inner fabric gave out in 2010, so it gave me seven years of use in sun, rain, and snow. There are many solutions to the dark-cloth problem, but I certainly recommend having one side waterproof to any photographer who plans to work in the field.

A perfect dark cloth, but I should have bought the small size for a 4x5 - I find there is too much fabric to handle.

I bought the Classic Dark Cloth to use with my new Solar Telescope.
When the Hydrogen Alpha scope is using double stacked filters the use of a dark cloth lets the observer see detail that is usually lost in light glare due to being in bright sunlight when you are doing the observing. The silver outside layer helps reflect the heat from the observer and the velcro along the one side helps to lock in the darkness around the observer. It does get hot under the cloth for any extended period of time and a small fan may be utilized by the observer for extended viewing in the summer. I highly recommend this product to any amateur astronomer who does solar observing.
