The Novatron 2103FC Fan-Cooled Bare Tube Lamphead is a 3-way switching convertible flash head that contains the controls to independently ratio the flash and modeling lamp at full, -1 stop, or -2 stops. It comes equipped with an internal fan, which aids in cooling electronics and the user replaceable plug-in flashtube.
Fan cooling extends the power handling capacity of this lamphead to 1500 watt/seconds. Without the fan in use, the power limit is 1000 watt/seconds. This head also gives the photographer the option of using different reflectors. This head is better for photographers who want more control over their light than what can be achieved with the other lampheads in the Novatron line of quality flash equipment. A power supply for this flash head is required.

There is nothing that can touch this for anywhere near the money. This s a strong durable well thought out system. At 250 Watts the modeling light is one of the best around. When put with a powerpack like the D1500 it is extremely powerful as well. What sets this apart from all but some of the highest dollar units is its ability to ratio between lights hooked to the same pack (full - 1 and -2 F stops) The modeling lights follow the ratios with double switches. For those of us that don't have mega room in the studio to pull back any umbrella soft box or hair light 5 feet or more this is worth the price of admission. My Pack the D1500 also has an overall F stop range of -5.8. That allows shooting in relatively small areas at ISO 200 at 1.4 - 1.8 without difusing strobes to knock down the light Way lighter than mono-lights and less hassel as I can just change the pack f stop and ratio everything down or up as I change F stops on camera. The 2103 FC is also strong. I have a 60inch double baffle octabox and speed ring hanging from the front and there is no sag or bend at all in anything. (that is not the case with many others as well as the lesser Novatron 2100,10,40's). Everything Fits nicer on these such as universal snoot or barn doors etc. as they use strong removeable reflectors that have a more substantial LIP as well as having screw mount capabilty (4 screw holes) for bare bulb and monolight specialty designed items. The Only Con I have at all about these are I wish they would have included 4 thumbscrews instead of only 2 (a situation fixed by local hardware store And I almost dropped the bulb when unwrapping from the box (should be packed separately).

These heads are pretty wonderful. Light, solid metal construction, powerful, easy to change modeling lamp and tube. I've been using Novatron M500's for a number of years, now I'm switching to these and the D1500 powerpack's.
