I use the Chimera Speed ring along with a White, Extra Small Maxi Softbox,- by Chimera together they let me take studio quality lighting on my run and gun style of shooting. The ring is sturdy enough to support the softbox; and the camera mounting hardware ensures a tight lockup on my Cannon 580EX flash and EOS 5D. Just the perfect match for a very mobile photographer.

If this product were half the price it would be well worthit. I have owned this for about 3 weeks and have used it 5times so far. I use it with a photoflex large multi domewith an SB-800 mounted to a typical umbrella swivel. Thebracket bends very easily, and it will not screw downcompletely tight into the umbrella swivel. I wish it weremade of cast aluminum and not a poly-resin. I feel asthough it will not last very long.I would have been better off fabricating my own bracket tohold my SB-800 and mounting that to a speed ring. Next timeI will save my money.

I use this with a Westcott Strip Softbox. Inexpensive compared to other brands.

Put your speedlights in softboxes! Faster to set up than strobe heads, and less wires. The hardware didn't tighten up properly but I added some washers to fix it. Should fight together better considering the price. Made in USA! Get a large ball head for each of these and you're good to go.

Instructions for putting it together were not great. I called Chimera and got right through and was helped quickly. Works fine with Chimera portable softbox.

Comments about Chimera Speed Ring for Canon and Nikon:
It did what it was supposed to, however
If you use an off camera triggering system that attaches to the foot of the flash, it raises it up and it does not fit the opening well.
Also if your using a pocketwizard, it will not fit at all because it hits the bar that comes down at an angle.
Otherwise, if you don't mind figuring out a work around, it does what it is supposed to.

The best part about these mounts, even though it says for Canon 540 ez flash, is that they work with most any Nikon, Canon Vivitar strobe. I use the 580 ex version 1. You can use any of the square or rectangular small to mid-size photoflex softboxes. I like it because then I have easy access to the flash to adjust the setting.

I purchased this for use with the Westcott 12x36" softbox for flash units. It works great with my Canon 580 EX II flash. Yhe neat thing about this set-up is that in situations where there is limited space for tripods, stands, etc., this flash/softbox combo can easily be hand held.

Comments about Chimera Speed Ring for Canon and Nikon:
I have the Chimera Mini and Maxi soft boxes with the older speed ring. The problem I was having is that my Nikon SB800 and SB900 power supply cord could not fit between the flash and the arm. I only needed the arm but I could not buy it separately so I had to buy the entire assembly. The good news is that the longer arm did allow me to use the power supply.

Comments about Chimera Speed Ring for Canon and Nikon:
I shoot the occasional event, and when I do that I want to do it right. Rather than using flimsy light diffusers or a harsh flash, I choose to bring small softboxes with me. The best way I've found is to use Chimera's Speed Ring adapter. It allows the attachment of many different softboxes to your off-camera flash! It disassembles quickly so it can fold flat in your bag, and it's remarkably simple and robust. If you shoot events, I HIGHLY recommend this little piece of kit.

I'm using this with a White Lightning 24" X 36" softbox on a mini stand as a Stroist modifier with a Canon 580EX.
Seems a bit over priced for a piece of plastic but works like a champ.

A must have for your strobe when using a softbox and grid. I am giving it a 4 because it should cost less.

This, together with a Chimera or other soft box is much better than the Lastolite EZ Box because this will pack much smaller. The EZ box packs into a large lump that's difficult to travel with.

Comments about Chimera Speed Ring for Canon and Nikon:
I bought it for medium-size stripbox, but it doesn't fit at all. Chimera speed ring designed only for rectangular type of sotbox.
Also, design doesnt sturdy for take really large softbox (all construction bending), and i'm recommend to use hardened swivel mount. I use it with one by Photflex, and Impact mount should does this job too.

Used this with my 550ex flash and a rectangular Booth softbox. The box made it a bit top heavy but got my flash in the box on a stand and thats all that mattered.

Comments about Chimera Speed Ring for Canon and Nikon:
I use this with a Chimera off camera softbox and a Nikon SB-800. It's a space age plastic, seems flimsy, but will take years of abuse. It does a fine job of keeping the softbox and flash together and mounts easily to a light stand or boom. I've used the softbox/speed ring combo in the studio, at weddings and fashon shows, outdoors for portraits and cann't say enough good about them.

Doesn't fit the mount as well as you would hope. Seems to sit a bit low in the chimera, making it difficult to attach off camera cord.
