Califone cassettes are built for reliability and consistent performance, largely in the service of the educational market. The 1300AV is a very inexpensive personal home-study, listening and recording solution for younger schoolchildren. Standard features include fast forward and rewind, built-in electret microphone, and inputs for an optional Stop/Start-activating external dynamic microphone. The 1300AV cassettes are powered by either AC or battery powered by 4 "C" cell batteries.

This item deserves the lowest rating (not even 1 star), i.e., it shouldn't exist or B&H shouldn't carry it in the first place! Having tried this item out for merely 10 seconds, I consider my 10-year good old Sony portable pocket-size cassette player/recorder a gift from heaven. Not only this item at issue made my music the least audible, it added a lot of background noise to it. I didn't expect it to produce extreme quality but at least a reasonable one.[...]
