The B+W 72mm Kaesemann Circular Polarizer MRC Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.
A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.
Kaesemann-type filters feature greater optical efficiency than regular polarizing foils and are more neutral in color. The polarizing foils are cemented between plano-parallel optical glass layers, which are then precision-polished to achieve the most accurate plano-parallel surface. This edge sealing protects the filter layers from humidity and are ideal for use with high-speed telephoto and apochromatic lenses.
The Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) is both an anti-reflection coating as well as a protective surface. It helps to increase light transmission by reducing reflections, scattered light, and ghosting. Additionally, it offers greater protection to the filter substrate and stays cleaner for longer than uncoated filters.
B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. They feature a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention. The slim filters are specifically designed for use with wide angle lenses and are only 0.1" / 3mm thick. They do not have front threads for stacking additional filters.

I have other B+W products, but this is really the best circular polorizer I've ever owned. The "Kaeseman" version is completely sealed from the elements holds up very well under harsh conditions in the industrial settings such as I shoot. The very thin profile makes it easy to stack this right over a UV filter and avoid vignetting. Easy to rotate, and never binds even in when out in 10 degree temperatures for hours.
I would recommend this filter to anyone. This is simply the best Circular Polorizing filter out there..period. If you want the best, nothing else will best a B+W polorizer.

Bought this filter for use on Canon XHA1 HDV video camera in adverse conditions, lots of salt spray.
The glass is great, lovely sharp clear picture polarization works as it should.
On the downside, rotation is not very free or smooth, very difficult to use with lens hood in place, requires two hands. I even tried 4 different filters in the shop and picked the smoothest one. In addition the glass seems prone to static and is difficult to clean with only a cloth, a blower or anti static brush is needed to do a good job.

I use this step up ring with my canon 50 mm f1.8 and it works great.

This is a nice filter to get the clarity and crispness you want in all weather. The slimness of the filter makes it a bit wonky to get on and off, but solid construction.

Like all B&W filters, this is exceptionally well made and the glass is flawless.

Comments about B+W 72mm Kaeseman Circular Polarizing Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) (Slim) Filter:
After trying a standard thickness B + W MRC circular polarizer and being aware of flaring, I tried the slim version and found additional coloration and the absense of flare using the Canon 50mm f/ 1.2 L lens. This proved to be a constant using the supplied lens hood as well as without the hood. On a mixed session inside and outside the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki I found the filter to be an asset for all the photos. On a downside the standard B + W soft filter cover is in need of adjustment to prevent it from falling off the filter. [...] apply masking tape to the inside edges of the filter covers is a great solution and as usual B&H knows how to deal with the situation and keep on shooting. Perhaps B + W will take heed to B&H's common sense solution to this problem.

This is the best polarizer on the market. The only drawback is that you can't use a regular lens cap because it is a 'slim' and the slip-on cover that comes with it doesn't stay on. I rigged a rubber band to keep it on and that seems useable but not the best.

Absolutely the best polarizer to use - especially the slim version for wide angle lenses.

Although it is expensive, I bought this for an upcoming trip to Vancouver Island. So far, I am very pleased with the results. It is the only CP I've used but the effect is exactly what I had hoped for. Photos in bright sunlight with the CP are always better than without. Feels extremely well built, very precise...rotating the CP is very smooth. I'm using on a Nikon D90 with the 18-200mm lens and haven't noticed any vignetting. As others have mentioned the supplied lens cap isn't very secure. Every time I pull the camera out of my bag the cap is rarely attached. Just something to be aware of.

Great Filter, It's just a shame that it comes with dust included. It'd be nice if it came with sealed packaging that's less prone to collecting dust or it's packaged dust and debris free from the factory. That's the only reason it got 4 rather than 5 stars.

Comments about B+W 72mm Kaeseman Circular Polarizing Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) (Slim) Filter:
I bought this to use in a landscape photography class. I have purchased less expensive polarizers in the past and I was concerned about the value. I was pleased when I received it and compared it to my other filters. It was easy to see the qualitative difference. This product is well made, optically clear and very thin. It did not produce any vignetting at 18mm. I would recommend it since I bought three more sizes after receiving this one.
