Comments about Speedotron DM1604- 1600 W/S 3CC Light System:
If you're just starting out in the field and don't have a ton of money to spend on gear but need a good basic studio light set-up, this kit is for you. It has everything you need for most of your lighting needs. It's versatile and was easy to assemble and use. It's not that heavy and with the carry case outfitted with the top and side handles it's easy to lug around for on-location shoots. I was a little worried about how secure the light head plugs would be attached to the power supply since they're the "quick release" type that don't have threading or a click-locking system to ensure that they were secure but you just have to make sure to push them in with firm even pressure and they'll be fully seated and secure. My only gripes with it are that I wish it came with a softbox instead of a snoot (or came with both ideally) and for the carry case to have a zipper instead of a velcro closure. Overall it's a great basic kit for a great price.
