if you don't need the hot shoe for anything else, this can be a useful gadget for arranging small cards for various lighting effects. The kit comes with small cards that include white/silver cards, black cards, and a gray card. there are also some small cards for hi-key and low-key vignetting effects. This set is really intended primarily for photographing small objects. The entire kit can easily be carried in a camera bag.
One problem I initially had was the plastic square that fits into the hot shoe was jammed into the base connector. It had to be loosened up a bit using a blade in order to slide it into the hot shoe.
