Retaining the excellent performance at maximum aperture of the much larger f/2.8L but in a much smaller and more travel-friendly size, the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Lens is a professional zoom telephoto suitable for a broad range of applications from sports to portraiture. It is fully compatible with the Extender EF 1.4x II and 2x II teleconverters (requires f/8 AF sensitivity with EF 2x II).
Like every autofocus Canon "L" lens, the EF 70-200mm f/4L delivers optical performance equal to similar fixed focal length lenses, with silent, high-speed focusing and full-time manual focus override capacity. Distortions and aberrations are remarkably small for a lens of such capability. This lens combines 1 artificial fluorite element with 2 UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) elements to help achieve images free of secondary spectrum aberrations, which are often the bane of consumer-grade telephoto zooms. It is light enough to not need a tripod collar (86% lighter than the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L), but for handling purposes there is an optional tripod collar.
The 70-200's minimum focusing distance is 3.9' (1.2m) throughout its entire range of focal lengths, and it accepts 67mm screw-in filters.
Note! This lens does not have seals for water and dust resistance.

I purchased this lens as a first step in upgrading all my glass to L series. It is undoubtedly amazing and now has me addicted. Is it as good in low light as the f4 IS or f2.8? No. But pair it with a body that handles high ISOs well and you're golden. You need to think hard about the benefits of the 70-200mm counterparts and whether or not the benefits match your needs and bank account. It is UNBELIEVABLY sharp throughtout the whole f stop range and zoom range. Solid build, amazing mechanics, quick-to-focus, the list is endless. I would wholly recommend this be a part of any Canon enthusiasts line-up, beginner to professional.

Comments about Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Lens:
Best bang for the buck on the Canon line up. It reaps all the benefits of being an L lens without being priced as an L lens. I've used it for a while as my walk around lens and I must say that its been nothing short of magnificent. It has extremely fast and accurate focus. The output is always consistant on my Canon EOS 60D. I feel like this is best used on a tripod since handholding on the telephoto end of the focal length will usually result in blurry pictures due to hand shake. The only thing I didn't like is the fact that its a heavy lens. While it's it not as heavy as the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 L, you'll still feel its weight after a prolonged period of use.

Comments about Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Lens:
Like many people, I simply can't afford to buy thousand dollar lenses, no matter how much I would like to. After purchasing a Canon T3i a few months ago, I began itching for a telephoto lens to compliment the 18-55 kit lens. I read hundreds of reviews for the various offerings from Canon, Tamron, Sigma, and others. They all boiled down to the same thing: Canon L lenses are (optically) really, really good. Even the cheapest one, the 70-200 f/4.0L, still outperforms most of the competitors lenses. After using this lens for the past 2 weeks, I can honestly say that the image quality is superb, as is the build quality. The autofocus is much faster than the kit lens, while at the same time being very quiet. If image quality is what you're after, you will not be disappointed. On the other side of the coin, there are some significant drawbacks to this lens. While the constant f/4 isn't bad, it isn't phenomenal. The lack of stabilization exacerbates this issue, requiring a steady hand (or high ISO) in less bright environments. On my crop sensor camera, the effective focal length is 112-320mm. The extra reach is nice to have, but I find myself wishing I could zoom out a bit more fairly often. As L lenses hold their value well, I think that I will trade up to the IS version at some point, selling this one to offset the cost. Eventually, I'll work my way up to the f/2.8 version, but at more than 3 times the price, it won't be anytime soon.If you're looking for a good useful zoom lens for general use, you might look to spend the same money on something with IS. If you want the best quality images however, you can't go wrong buying and L.

Comments about Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Lens:
The lens has great optics, Manual focus override is very useful.
This lens is the same weight as my previous Tamron 70-300, makes it easy to carry during long trips.
Best value for the money.
Lens hood seems much too big for the lens and makes it cumbersome when walking in crowdy places.

Comments about Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Lens:
I love the lens for it use and purpose. The quality of the photos are great and haven't been disappointed. The only thing I wish it had was the IS, but I couldn't afford the lens that does have it. But, since price was an issue, I am satisfied with the one I have. If I have to, I just use a tripod and that solves any image stabilization problems.

I bought this to replace my broken 75-300mm lens and so far, I'm impressed with it. I get noticably better pictures with this lens than I got with my old one and it's a lot nicer feeling. The autofocus is quieter too.

I had tried a friend's f2.8 and decided it was too heavy and too expensive! I opted for the smaller, lighter f4.0 version L glass. Mainly to be used in studio and no longer do I have to crop or edit the edge of the backdrop paper!

Comments about Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Lens:
Firstfull, I have been really concern about results becouse of the price of this lens... The aperture technically is not the top as other L series lenses but even on the f2.8 lenses i would ruther go for f4 to get the sharpness of whole object, so to be honest that f2.8 gives you few steps more in shallowness of dept of focus field, which is not mendatory and for only some special situations, but since I already have Canon 50mm f1.4, I don`t miss that shallowness especially for distant objects where with more zoom lens I can get the bokeh as I need. Comparing to other brands, third party lenses with f2.8 results are not even comarble in speed for focusing and for sharpness as well. As for image stabilisation, well, that was my biggest concern I must say and that thing is not something that I really need so much. Pictures taken with this lens and without any kind of tripod are surpisingly sharp. I am using this lens for outside with f4, shutter speed 1000/s-8000/s and during the day up to ISO 400. I didn`t try the lens indoor yet for but I believe that with a little of hlp with flash I can get pretty satisfied results, I mean faster shuttrspeed so images would be sharper and with less smudges with lack of image stabilisation. For the money I payed I am getting really professional results :)

Lots of positives about this lens including the fixed f/4L and quick auto focus. Only complaints would be - a bit heavy and long, and not great in low light.

Every Canonite's favorite. The 70-200mm f4 is just a bomber lens: Lightweight, perfectly smooth tension on the zoom ring, no lens creep, manual override all at a very fair price. I've never found anything to complain about this lens.

I have heard so much about this through out the motocross industry, and had to purchase one for myself! The lens arrived quickly due to B & H's reliable company. I opened the box and took it for a trial run! It is light weight, and focuses quickly. However, you have to stand quite some feet back from your subject to take a photo. Overall, happy with my purchase!

Bought this lens to use with my T3i and it turned out to be a great combination. Very sharp results even when shooting jpg. Unbelievable results with RAW. So it doesn't have IS, at double the cost is it really worth it. Splurge for a monopod and shoot away.
