In fact it is the original. Broke the one that came with my lens and put up with it falling off on to the floor for several months.

These things seem to be a bit on the fragile side.
They are also a little fussy on the alignment when attaching in the storage position on the lens. Fortunately they are also not that expensive and they are light weight and not a big burden.

It's the hood for the 28-70 2.8. Works like the original. Build quality is awesome though it is a bit tight when putting on and taking off.

This is how all Nikon lens hood should be. It has that great matte black finish, it clicks into place securely, and has a great look to it.
I highly recommend this to anyone that has this particular lens.

It's a huge hood, looks very good, could attract others' eyes. good protectiion for the 28-70 heavy lens.

The lens hood not only helps prevent lens flare by shading the lens from light striking it during an exposer, but it can actualy prevent damage by absorbing some of the shock, should you accidently drop the camera or lens. After experiencing a camera drop, I though the lens was a goner. Instead my lens hood took the impact and broke. The lens was fine and all I had to do was replace the lens hood. [...]

I use this for literally everything I shoot with my 28-70 lens. It provides great protection for the lens, eliminates flare and ghosting, durable and well constructed. I shoot events, scenery, wildlife and a host of other subjects. One problem is possible vignetting although I am still trying to determine if it is the filter or the hood.

Whenever a lens is discontinued, I make it a point to get an extra hood. Should the hood become lost or broken, or if I want to sell the lens, it's just easier to have the replacement on hand. Looking around for a good, clean used one is pretty hit or miss.

I use this almost everyday and it is a must have in my kit. It prevents flare from stray light and keeps my images contrasty and fabulous! I can't think of anything that's not great about it.
