The Hoodman H-400 Camcorder Hood is made to fit a camcorder with a 3.5" LCD monitor. The hood will provide glare-free viewing when attached. It is constructed from plastic inserts wrapped in water resistant nylon and attaches with elastic straps.

I've shot a lot of outdoor sporting events for years and just recently decided to get one of these hoods. Now that I have one, I don't know what took me so long to get one, especially considering the inexpensive price compared to all the other camera gear. This is one of the first accessories I would purchase with any new camera.
I considered the many other products on the market. There are some hoods designed by the manufacturer, but they don't fold up and are more expensive. There are other competitors, but again they are more expensive and don't provide the simple wrap-around function that the Hoodman offers.
I use one of these on a Sony PMW-EX1, and the H-400 fits perfectly. Once you velcro the elastic straps to the proper length, you can easily slip the hood on and off and fold it for storage.
I deducted one star because the material used on the inside of the hood is shiny and reflective, although it is black. So this means that if you get sun bouncing off the inside bottom surface, then it causes some glare. If they changed the fabric to a matte finish, then that should reduce the amount of glare. You could also apply some material on your own if it really bothers you.
In the end, I recommend this accessory for anyone shooting outdoors using the flip-out LCD on your camera.

I am an avid videographer who loves shooting in the open air. I recently purchased a Canon Vixia to try shooting in HD. The camera performs like a pro, but when shooting outdoors, the LCD needs help. The LCD hood is the perfect answer. It slips onto the LCD screen and provides the shielding from the light you need.
The construction could have been a little bit heaveier, but then again, who needs the extra weight.
I would recommend this product.

Giving it four stars because although it works as advertised, it does make it relatively/practically impossible to work the touch-LCD screen on the XA10 (and possibly other touch-screen cameras). I'm a huge fan of the XA10 touch screen-- makes menu navigation really rapid-- but since touch screens are likely going to increase in use, perhaps there's a small adjustment they could make to this unit to allow better access. Otherwise, works as advertised IMO, and I really like that it folds down quickly for storage (some others I saw didn't).

I use this product on my HPX170 for outdoor motorsports coverage. The piece is about a 30 second install and provides a degree of light protection for the undersized screen on the HPX.
A fair amount of my shooting are pans following racecars on the track surface. All the shooting is in daylight with me usually standing in direct light attempting to pan and focus at the same time. This piece does help. Its not a substitute for a Marshall LCD, but if your having to be mobile all day its very little money well spent
