This is a great little light for on-camera needs, and the construction appears to be solid and sturdy. The only downside to it is a rather heavy battery belt, weighing in around 12 pounds. But otherwise the light is great, and comes with two bulbs--one at 50watts for the 12v D/C battery, and one at 100watts if you plug it in to a 120v A/C outlet. I've not run the battery out yet, but I've heard it gets close to 8 hours... it should, for the weight!

The only thing lacking on this light that I would wish for would be adjustable color balance in the light.

I use the VS-65 for indoor scenes that require more lighting than the natural light provides. I use an XL-A1 and a Panasonic HDC-TM700. I have seen other videographers use LED's but they were very harsh comparing my footage with theirs. This unit is light and not noticeable other than the dangling cord.
The VS-65 provides a softer light and works well with 3 chip camera's providing a nice warm hue. It lights up the scene fairly evenly without much detection that you are using a light. 50 Watts is plenty but if you are shooting further than 20 feet the 100 watt bulb is the answer and will work at 50 feet.
The battery pack is heavy at first but feels natural after a few minutes, especially if the belt is adjusted tight. I have a 42" waist but this pack would fit 50" easily. I have never had to worry about batteries dying yet after 5 hours of straight use. Confidence in this unit is high.
I do wish the lamp lens/flapper had thumbwheel screws for quicker lighting changes. It would also be nice if the kit came with other diffusers and colors for the money.

Great light for wedding & event videographers. Goes AC in the studio and DC out in the field. Has enough power to light a dozen dancers in total darkness, yet the barn doors let you do close-up interviews without blinding people. With my vx2100, I rarely need this, but when I do, it's a life-saver!
