When I bought the Canon EF 100mmf/2.8 USM Macro lens I chose not to get the tripod mount because of cost. I found that when using the macro lens on my tripod I had difficulty framing extreme close up shots because the lens kept drooping just enough to irritate me so I forked out for the Tripod mount Ring B and boy did it make a difference. The tripod ring balances the lens on my 40D perfectly and now the lens stays where I put it. The ring also makes it much easier to switch the camera from landscape to portrait framing positions. I should have bought it with the lens.

Works well for its intended use, although it is rather pricey. The only complaints I have are that the adapter collar has plastic roller bearings so it's not as smooth as its counterparts on metal bearings. I have to loosen it nearly all the way for it move smoothly, where as my other lenses that use mount ring "B" don't. However, after some weeks of use it seems to be loosening up a bit (i.e. breaking in). The other issue is that it sits so far back on the 100mm lens such that it doesn't clear the grip and built-in flash on a 40D body. So you end up with about 300 degrees of rotation which I can live with.

Comments about Canon Tripod Mount Ring B:
I purchased this product for macro photography using my EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro lens attached to a Canon T1i body. I went for the Canon product based on the many negative reviews of third-party offerings. Based on limited use, the mount seems to work well once I figured out how to attach it to the lens. It is sturdy and balances well. The major drawback is price.

You need to have the lens manual to be able to fit this ring properly otherwise it can be hard to work out how to fit it easily.

Comments about Canon Tripod Mount Ring B:
I bought the cheap version of this ring elswwhere and realised that was a big mistake. My 100 macro and camera are a lot safer on this ring. I use it for macros on my Manfrotto tripod and its make it so much easier. With the pivot point moved foward between the camera and lens, it balances much better when adjusting the ballhead. Its a little confusing when installing it on the lens. The insructions to install it are in the lens manual. You could even search the net for instructions with pics. I am very satisfied with this product.

I had no problems setting it up, to me it was intuitive. Lens rotates easily and I bought the manfrotto quick release to mount it on my tripod. Great buy, definitely needed for better weight distribution and balance.

I use this on a 100mm Macro Lens w/Tripod for closeup work. I use a Canon 40D. Very sturdy and easy to remove or adjust. Does not come with the lens..This is optional if you need it.

Comments about Canon Tripod Mount Ring B:
Before purchasing, my camera creeped on the tripod with my 100mm lens. This tripod mount ring has made all the difference -- keeping the camera rock solid and making my photos noticeably sharper. Also, just a turn of the dial makes it much easier to go from horizontal to vertical. This tripod ring is highly recommended.
