I always found myself wrapping the cameras neck strap around my wrist and just holding the body with my right hand. I never used the neck strap for a neck strap and it got in the way while shooting. This grip is very comfortable to carry and shoot with for extended periods. Both of my DSLR bodies have them now.

The base plate is a little hokey and bows a little over time. It also caused the rubber bottom to un-glue itself from my D200. I've since replaced the bottom plate with a RRS style bracket that has a grip loop but still use the Hakuba strap & pad. Even with a camera as light & small like the D40, I still love the grip.

Wouldn't own a DSLR without one anymore!

Like most, I wanted this grip to replace the Nikon strap with the rubber-like backing which annoyingly grips the neck. The strap itself was inexpensive but was far better quality than I expected, it is made in Japan which was also unexpected.

I strapped it to my D90 and adjusted it for fit within 5 minutes, super easy to attach. It fits well and keeps the camera secure, however once I started actually using the camera, I had to do some re-adjusting.

The problem is that my "trigger finger" movement is hampered by the top strap. Imagine tightening your existing neck strap downwards while trying to press the shutter and you get the idea. My only solution was to loosen the strap enough so that it didn't get in the way as much and I got used to it.

At first it felt like the strap was really loose (as if I could drop the camera) but after a few days of use, the loose feeling doesn't bother me so much. It's not possible to make this strap snug and comfortably press the shutter. I have medium-sized hands and by design I don't think it can be improved much due to where the strap goes on the top mount of most DSLRs.

It's still better than the neck strap IMO. I rarely walk around for long periods with a DSLR anyway. One other thing to note is that you have to unscrew the bottom mounting plate to charge the battery.

I cannot stand my same old neck strap...I don't like it and never wear it that way. With this hand camera grip I can move around and not worry a strap is in my face.

I shoot events every weekend, 4-7 hour long affairs that requires me to have my camera at hand at all times. I orginally purchased this same handstrap 4 years ago. Through the countless parties Ive shot, the strap has recieved its fair share of wear and tear. When it came time to purchase a new one, there was no hesitation, the hakuba hand strap was it.

Comments about Hakuba LH Camera Grip Hand Strap:

I wanted a grip strap because the neck straps get in the way. I thought a grip strap would be perfect in preventing fatigue yet staying out of the way. We'll this strap does exactly that.

I also look at the Olympus grip strap. Didn't like the way it was built. The Op/Tech neoprene strap wasn't ideal either; it would probably start to smell like a used yoga mat after some use.

There are a couple minor things about this strap that I don't like though. First, if you need to change batteries (I have a Canon 7D, battery compartment is on the bottom) then you have to unscrew the strap from the tripod mount. It stays connected via the neck strap loop, so it doesn't come completely off, but it's still a little bit of a hassle. Second, the ergonomics of the strap make it a little difficult to change some of the settings on top of the camera. Third, there's a little tab on the part that attaches to the tripod mount that gets in the way of the 7D's quick control wheel's on/off switch. This little tab prevents the base from being completely flush with the underside of the camera. It's barely noticeable, but I'm pretty picky so I noticed it. It still works though, so I got over it.

I do love that it has a tripod mount on the bottom so you don't have to take the grip off if you want to mount your camera to a tripod. Also, if you want to attach a neck strap as well, you can do that too, there's a slot for that on the base. All in all, this thing is pretty comfortable. I would recommend this to anyone.

Comments about Hakuba LH Camera Grip Hand Strap:

Simply attached to the camera by a screw into the tripod mount (another tripod mount is located on the bottom of the hand grip screw).

It's possible to use the neck strap as well when this grip is attached by tying the strap to a dedicated hole in the hand grip.

Thanks to the adjustable length of this strap, I can use it with the battery grip of the T1i.

The padding material is of a pretty low quality, but this doesn't harm the functionality.

I would highly recommend such a type of hand grips. Especially if you carry your camera most of the time in a side bag (or the Capture clip system).

I've used this on my Canon 5D & 5D2 EVEN WITH THE BATTERY GRIP for years. It works. Here's how: Take off the plastic tripod mount piece, put it away somewhere. Rethread the strap through anchor point on the bottom of the battery grip, then back to the grip strap. Tighten to taste. With use, you will hardly be gripping, but balancing the camera in your hand. You will be able to walk around with your hand at your side, and be ready for any shot. Slip your hand out to operate the camera vertically, holding the camera by the battery grip. It does not interfere with tripod use.

Comments about Hakuba LH Camera Grip Hand Strap:

Great replacement for a neck strap - and you can attach a neck strap to it as well.

Using a Canon 7D with a 24-70mm lens which can get quite heavy, but the strap holds up very well and feels sturdy.

You will need to detach the strap in order to switch out batteries - which some may find annoying.

For the price, it's a great buy and it works.

I have the Canon 5d and it works great. My hands are pretty average for a woman and it works well. I can see it working even better for larger hands. If you have really small hands I would try something else. I don't think it would be tight enough with small hands.

I really do love it. I shoot a lot of weddings and it's a lot easier than using a neck strap.

I use the grip on my GF1. It's sized more for a DSLR and I had a bit of a time fitting it well onto the smaller body of the GF1, but generally it works well.

The grip went on real easy and has made carrying my camera a lot nicer while sightseeing. Having the camera, at the ready, all the time made for some great shots on my last trip.

It's simple and works. I got this for my 60D. I am still able to mount it to my tripod with the strap attached. I also loved how inexpensive it was.

I'm using this on my Panasonic GF1 which is otherwise very slippery to hold. Despite being such a small camera this grip adjusts down to a usable size (with index finger kept out to hit the shutter). I especially like that there's a pass-through tripod socket.

Before this purchase, I wasn't using a strap, and was having a lot of pain in my wrist in hand after shooting all day at a wedding. The strap has alleviated about 75% of the stress on my hand, and I'm very happy with it.

Love this little grip. The camera feels firm in your hands, ready to go, without it bouncing around on your chest with a neck strap. Found I can hold the camera for a long time with this grip without getting tired.

Works well on my 50D. This seemed like one of the only hand straps that doesn't require you to have a grip. Working the top buttons with your right hand can be a bit tricky but as long as the strap isn't too tight and you can move your hand a bit, you should be fine.

Easy to install. It will take a little bit of time to get adjusted to using it. On Nikon D90, reaching for the shutter button is strange at first, but you will get use to it, and it is not bad at all. Very comfortable to carry you camera around and taking shots. It helps to relive some tension in your wrist. Also this grip allows to attach a neck strap to your camera as well, very useful. Bottom bracket will block the battery door, but it's not a problem, just unscrew it and you done.
I would recommend this product, if you are looking for the hand grip.
