Don't know why people are saying these don't last long. 60 hours is optimal for a 500W lamp. Look at the EBV, they are a brighter 500W and only last an average of 6 hours. Also, why are people saying these run hot? It's a 500W lamp! It's gonna be hot. The higher the wattage, generally the hotter the lamp. Also, the higher the wattage, generally the lower life time. These are generic 500W lamps. They serve their purpose. As with all 500W tungsten lamps, you should not bump them while in use. Power off and let cool for a minute or two before moving them unless you are slow and gentle. Always have spare lamps, that's just common sense.
I prefer the EBV, but they last 1/10th the time. They output 3000+ more lumens and have a color temp of 3400K compared to 3200K of the ECT.
These lamps are versatile. They work great in a wide variety of applications. For my most basic setup, I use one direct (or close with a reflecting umbrella) as a key and one through an umbrella or other diffuser as a fill. Not the best solution for night time unless you're working in a pretty tight area.

I use these bulbs with a Smith and Victor thrifty kit for studio product photography. They work well. They last slightly longer than what it says on the box unless you move them around. Every time I've taken them somewhere for a shoot I've had to replace a bulb after or right before the shoot, so they don't take kindly to being moved. The color is good, exactly what they are rated for. I tend to use them with umbrellas to diffuse them a bit, and two together are not bright enough to really be able to hand hold the camera for a product photography application. Over all they do what they are supposed to, last a decent while if not bumped around, have good color, and are cheap.

The bulb/lamp itself is bright, but the packaging is not so good. I'd prefer a box over a sleeve.

Comments about General Brand ECT Lamp - 500W/120V:
As a videographer, I use a lot of different kinds of lighting. I was using high output crystal quartz lights that put off an enormous amount of heat, which can cause my small enclosed work spaces to be quite uncomfortable. I'm not saying they're bad, but they do produce a lot of heat. I recently invested in a light kit that uses ECT bulbs. Not only do they produce much less heat, but they are tremendously cheaper. I highly suggest these lights for use by videographers and photographers alike.

I have no complaints about this product. It is easy to use and delivers the required light. The only issue I had is when I bought the kit, one bulb was broken, you guys replaced it without a problem.

Brought 5 of these. 2 popped on the first day with about 2 hours of use. Another popped within 10 hours of use. And the other 2 popped within 20 hours of use.
Never had any other bulbs pop this quickly.

I use these lamps with the green screen kit I purchased from B&H. They provide nice bright lighting and reduce the dreaded shadows. While they can get a little hot the light out weighs the hot bulb.

Plain vanilla 500W bulb. Does its job, no problems or issues. Runs HOT, but @ 500W, par for the course.

Although these bulbs are bright, powerful, necessary and inexpensive, boy are they fragile! My word of warning would be to ALWAYS shut off your lamp/lightbulb before moving the lamp even the slightest amount. We busted one bulb on the first day when our assistant was too rough with the lamp. Luckily, I bought two.

Nice and bright, with good color... but it has a short life span. The first bulb used lasted 15 minutes. The second one lasted 1hr.

some had a short life, others didn't. It's annoying when they burn out really fast, but some are really good, 3.5 stars
