Kodak Professional Portra 800 is a color print film with an ISO of 800 which is fast enough to catch the action in difficult lighting situations, often without on-camera flash. The grain is now even finer than ever before. And the extra speed allows you to pick up more detail in the foreground and background, even in low light.

Worths every penny for this film! Don't be turned off by the ISO 800. It has the sharpness of an ISO 100 film. Great for shooting indoors or anywhere with dim light. Once I shot at a wedding inside a medieval castle. The lighting was horrible, but I was able to use this film with no flash at 1/10s, and the results were amazing. Highly recommend for use in sports, or indoors.

I've been shooting the Fuji 800Z for awhile now, 1/3 over with beautiful results. I read all these great reviews and decided to grab some Portra 800 to compare. I ran it through at 1/3 over and the results were consistently terrible. Very flat, washed out, and tinged green in both indoor and outdoor lighting scenarios...it's sharp, but if you know how to use a camera what film isn't? I will give it that maybe shooting it a third over produced these effects, but even if that's the case then I still think this film is poor for so narrow an exposure latitude, a third shouldn't make it fall apart this bad. I have a few rolls left and am going to try regular exposure and 1/3 under to see, but not too hopeful based on what I've seen so far. I've been using the same lab (A&I in Hollywood) for years with consistent results so I know it's not the processing...bad batch maybe? Not sure but disappointing...

Comments about Kodak Portra-800 135-36 Professional Color Print Film (ISO-800):
Although this film is quite expensive, it looks fantastic. I love this film in 120 and it's also great in 135 format. The grain structure is flattering and pleasing. It's tonally very nice and quite even. Colour rendition is nice; sharpness is relatively high. 800 is my favourite Portra film and it works especially well with Canon EF lens rendering.

I tried this film for night shots such as neon lights and I had just the result I wanted. Vivid colors and texture.

This film is very sensitive. It is best used in low light in my opinion not for an increased depth of field. Great for night photography!!

Great fast speed film. Just as good if not better than fuji 800z. I like the tones it provides more, but that's just preference.

I usually shoot digital, but decided to try this since someone had given me a film camera and I'd never used it. I loved the look of the photos; rich, dark and well saturated. The experience inspired me to explore film deeper; I'll be getting a medium format and about a dozen rolls of this in 120 soon.

Gets me the speed I need to shoot indoors. Using an 80A filter under tungsten lighting still results in accurate skin tones.
This film matched with my Zuiko 50mm f1.8 are perfect :)

I prefer a 400 speed film for general purpose shooting, but when you need the extra speed, Portra 800 is invaluable. The grain structure is fantastic, and it scans exceptionally well. I only wish Kodak would release this film in large format sheets!

I tried one roll. But now I forget. I shoot mainly slides. Heard good things about Porta 800 on the Kodachrome Project forum. Decided to try.
I have two more rolls. Since I normally shoot ISO 64 and 100, and my high shutter speed is 1/1000, I think I should try different subjects.

Comments about Kodak Portra-800 135-36 Professional Color Print Film (ISO-800):
Kodak's Portra 800 is such a great film because even at the high ISO, you get really beautiful saturation and contrast. I was very happy with the results I got with it. It might not be as sharp as say Ektar 100 but I scanned the negatives myself and barely had to do anything with the levels or sharpening in Photoshop.
I typically over or underexpose shots by 1/2 stop and this film handled it both ways no problem.
Will be buying more.

In years gone by even ASA25 film was better than the ASA 10 that was Kodachrome (my staple). This clear grained fast and beautiful film is a terrific life-saver under any lighting conditions. I use the 35mm version and have always been happy with the results. It is, if well exposed, capable of great detail and wonderful color rendition. Thanks Kodak!

Our church music ministry presented Oklahoma at a local High School. The music director asked me if I would photograph the show. "Yes!" I could only think of one film that would capture the show on stage with the only light available from the stage lighting. Kodak Portra 800 Professional Color Print Film was that film. "Break a leg!"

best used for portraits, obviously.
pleasing skin tones and of course iso 800 is perfect for available light photography. grain adds old-school character.
i've used this for street photography, but too soft, Porta VC 400 much better for street and landscapes.

Comments about Kodak Portra-800 135-36 Professional Color Print Film (ISO-800):
I like the Portra 800 for low light colour photography as, to my eye, the colours are often more pleasing than Fujifilm NPZ or "press pack" 1600 and it produces better-looking results than "consumer" 800 film in terms of grain and colour. As with other Portra films, it scans nicely.
As is typical of colour negative film, results can be grainy with "muddy" colours if underexposed, so that should be avoided.

I love this film. I have used it in dark and rainy conditions and bright and sunny conditions with a telephoto lens. It also works well when you push it. I pushed it 1 stop to 1600 and did not notice much increase in the grain. The film scans good as well. I used an epson 4990 to scan in the film.

I like the skin tones so well with this film that I sometimes prefer to use it more than digital. I can also shoot it a full stop over without it looking aweful. I highly recommend the Porta 800. I hope they keep making it for some time.

True to it's Portra line, Kodak's Portra 800 delivers beautifully crisp and vibrant colors in an ISO that affords faster shutter speeds to capture the action.
Used with my Nikon F100 for some landscapes and portraits.
