Comments about Kodak Portra-800 120 Professional Color Print Film (ISO-800):
I needed more light sensitivity because I was shooting in a low light location. The grain was a bit noticeable when looking at my prints (11.5 by 17) but it's still the finest grain I've seen at ISO 800. And you can even push process it without the grain increasing significantly.

Comments about Kodak Portra-800 120 Professional Color Print Film (ISO-800):
While I prefer my images taken with the 400 ISO portra, 800 ISO gets me the shutter speed I need when shooting hand held in situations with lower light. I feel I lose a little sharpness vs the 400 but that is to be expected. It keeps me shooting and that's what counts.

Comments about Kodak Portra-800 120 Professional Color Print Film (ISO-800):
I use this film for both low light hand held shooting, and when i think i may convert my colour images to black and white. I find the grain quite pleasant in it's conversion to black and white, but a bit on the high side for big reproductions in colour. That being said, this film has many uses and it's all in what you want and the effect you want to achive.

I first used it to photograph fireworks on the fourth of July. I've never shot with this film speed and I've never shot fireworks, so it was new beginnings for me that day. Fabulous results!! beautiful, true colors. I rated the film at box speed but I've also heard you can over and under expose it without worry.

I shoot weddings completely in film. This film, albeit only available in 120, is such a versatile film. I can walk inside and shoot with no problem and walk outside and overexpose the snot out of it (1.5-2 stops) and have wonderful, wonderful results. Creamy skin tones and with the right scan engineer, produces impeccable results. The grain as well is pretty fine.

Comments about Kodak Portra-800 120 Professional Color Print Film (ISO-800):
I rarely shoot film at ISO 800, but since trying this film, I have found a lot of reasons to start. I absolutely love this film for portraits. The skin tones and colors are lovely. There's just enough contrast to make the photographs pop but not too much. It works beautifully for subdued landscapes in the late evening and early morning as well. The film scans very well also.
Portra 800 is much nicer than the 400 NC/VC series in my humble opinion. I wish Kodak would make this exact same emulsion with a speed rating of 400 and 200 as well. I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Comments about Kodak Portra-800 120 Professional Color Print Film (ISO-800):
For me, this might be the only film that rivals portra 400vc. The speed and sharpness of the 800 is superb and I like the color almost as much as the VC. The portra 800 is especially useful for when I'm using telephotos on my medium format rig. And for an 800 speed film, I don't think the grain is extreme or problematic. (although I've only used it in 120)

Comments about Kodak Portra-800 120 Professional Color Print Film (ISO-800):
I am quite thankful that Kodak is still making Portra 800. It works extremely well in low light conditions and does preform far better than digital can try to do. It allows you to not have to take a tripod into a concert or something like that. Aslo a great option for shooting action and sports!! I highly recommended it. Looks great when printed onto Kodak paper! You are silly to pull out digital for higher ISO when you have this.

Comments about Kodak Portra-800 120 Professional Color Print Film (ISO-800):
As a semi-pro photographer, I can't say enough positive things about the Portra line of films, especially their medium format, 800ISO, 120 size film.
I use this film mostly for my lomography projects with my Holga or Diana cameras, and occasionally on a Twin Lens Reflex I play with from time to time for portraits in low light (active portraits, mostly). The film thrives in low and even very low light (such as shots at night on urban streets), or indoor night shots with limited light sources. The film has extreemly low grain, even when shot in daylight, retains an exceptional sharpness, regardless of low light or daylight or even under bright Tungsten and has nearly perfect color temps that remain consistant even with my crazy Holga leaking light from every which way. I wouldn't use any other 120 film for my low or limited light shots, or my indoor work, ever. And for magic hour/dusk/dawn shots, try the Portra 400NC and the Portra 160 for bright daylight shooting.

shaded side of building portraits with a rolleinar at f5.6-8 / 60th-125th, that's why I tried this. dof and shutter speed were too shallow or slow with other types of film. sure i could grab a tripod, but I never do.
also use this with hot lights on small productions with my rolleiflex and like the uncorrected curve response to tungsten lighting. I thought this film was grainless when exposed at 640-400 but a drum scan reveals the real grain structure. ( which I like)not bad at all. Even a stop makes a huge difference , reasonable exposure times possible with lights ranging from 750w-2K's

Great for natural light. Although it's not good for places where natural and indoor (fluorescent) light mix.

Portra 800 was the very first roll I shot after years away from 120/220 film. When I got it back from the lab, I couldn't believe how wonderful the color was... and no discernable grain. I only wish I could have found it in 220! The more the merrier... I can't get enough of this film!
