Comments about Benbo 1 Kit with Pro Ballhead and Case:

Its a strange departure from what you are normally used to in a tripod at first. But once you get the hang of the adjustment, the Benbo is an ox.
It has the ability to adjust in just about every way and angle. Although it is heavy and bulky, this tripod would be great for landscape conditions where the ground is un even. River beds, mountains, etc. It can also hold a lot of weight. The one tricky part is getting used to the way the "all in one" center adjustment handle works, and how to use it without al the legs flipping everywhere. I found that placing it on the ground and then moving one legs at a time is the answer. That may seem like a simple answer but unlike other tripods, when you loosen the center handle, all the legs and center piece go loose.

Comments about Benbo 1 Kit with Pro Ballhead and Case:

I shoot quite a lot of landscapes and get myself into all kinds of tight locations and the Benbo 1 has let me put the camera anywhere I've wanted to. The first place I took it was down through some sandstone caves and I was able to get the camera into locations not even I could get into.

It's the most flexible tripod I've ever used and, even though it operates differently to any other tripod, once you get use to it it's a breeze to use.

Even for studio work, or anything where just a normal tripod would do it's great as well. You can open the legs out, set the centre arm vertical, lock it and leave it like a standard tripod. All individual leg adjustments can be made just like any other tripod. So it's not so 'specialist' that you couldn't just use it as any other tripod.

The leg design also allows for some pretty gnarly work, I've got no issues sinking the legs into mud or salt water, it's all sealed up.

The best tip is to hang on to the centre arm while adjusting and don't loosen the lock all the way for minor adjustments.

After using this tripod now I'm going to buy the larger Benbo 2 as well for the extra reach, the two will compliment each other nicely. The Benbo 1 model will reach almost 2m high, whilst it's bigger brother almost doubles that.

Comments about Benbo 1 Kit with Pro Ballhead and Case:

The Benbo 1 tripod with pro ballhead is my favorite tripod for still photography. I've been using one on and off since 1985 and just bought another one. I had tried the lighter weight Benbo Tracker but it is simply not sturdy enough for my Canon EOS 5D Mark II. The Benbo 1, on the other hand, is perfect for it. This is the most versatile tripod I have found, allowing you to put the camera just about anywhere you want it on any kind of terrain or surface, up against a wall, on steps, at ground level, etc. etc.
The only drawback I am aware of is that when you have the camera in position to shoot vertical (portrait) shots, it tends to slip on the mounting plate. You have to really tighten the camera to the platform. It would be good if there were a pin or some mechanism to keep the camera from slipping.
      Otherwise, it's perfect.

Comments about Benbo 1 Kit with Pro Ballhead and Case:

I have 3 of them, the standard, the XL and a very short one. Have used them for every size camera in unusual topography. Allows photos I wouldn't have gotten without it. Never had a problem. Built like a tank. In particular, the inverted legs allow for setting it up in water w/o any seepage into fittings. Recommend hiking with it by using a sling over your shoulder. They are all heavy, but they are all extremely stable.

Comments about Benbo 1 Kit with Pro Ballhead and Case:

I use this pod for commercial work in the studio and for work in the field, In fact because of all the weird angels you get this thing into, I am using for work that no other pod could do.

I use the Benbo with every from a Olympus E3 to 8x10 view camera. No problems at all.

It takes a few seconds to get use to how it works as it is not like other tripods in design or function. The single lever makes it easy to do quick and extreme changes of position.

To be honest I have yet find anything I do not like. I like the heft of it, the carring case is very good and comfortable on long hikes, but keep in mind i am use to carrying heavy lens and cameras so the weird could be a problem for some people.

Comments about Benbo 1 Kit with Pro Ballhead and Case:

I was very exited about my decision to purchase the Benbo tripod as I had heard so many things about its versatility; however, when it arrived, it did not work as there was no way to tighten the main (center) shaft. There was an extra part which was identical to the tightening rings which are used for the legs. I think what happened is that the wrong tightening ring was sent with the tripod. Unfortunately, since it was manufactured in England, there was no way for B&H to correct the problem except by giving me a return authorization. I reluctantly sent it back and will buy another brand instead. Fortunately I was dealing with B&H - they truly stand behind everything they sell. I still wish I would have been able to use the Benbo.

Comments about Benbo 1 Kit with Pro Ballhead and Case:

I use this tripod in studio and in the field. I absolutely love it. I've had it for over 5 years. I use it with an Arca Swiss monoball head. It allowes me to get angles in the studio and in the field that are not possible with other tripods. It's very quick to set-up. The guy who hates it, I'm sure never learned to set it up properly. There is a small learning curve because it is different. My favorite piece of equipment! It's heavy so I use a running baby stroller to carry it with my other gear. The weight is a bonus.I mount heavy equipment on it - no problem.

There's a learning curve to Benbo tripods! After using them for about 18 years I can attest to their quality and usefulness.

I'd put a Benbo tripod in the same category as a "Bogen Super Clamp" the more you use it - the more you kinda get it!

My recommendation: not for you if you have to ask "what's a Super Clamp used for?"
