The wide zoom range of the EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 makes this a perfect lens for many situations. Its sixteen-element design includes two aspherical elements, and it focuses as close as 17.7" throughout the entire zoom range. Inner focusing means the front section doesn't rotate, a real benefit to photographers who use filters.

I use this lens in all my photography. I am considered a semi professional photographer and shoot mostly people and some weddings.
I don't have to change lens when I am in a hurry. I can shoot close and distant. I have (2) Canon "L" lens but they are to heavy to use all the time. I like the weight of this lens.
I haven't found anything I don't like about it as yet.

I bought it for the zoom range, and as a backup lens when my 28-135mm was in for cleaning. Auto focus is noisy compared to the nicer ring USM. You don't get the ability to refocus manually after auto focus, unless you actually switch the lens to manual focus. For the money spent, and the zoom range, it's on okay value. It's got a reasonably good feel to it, though the manual focus ring is small and chintzy. I previously had (and still own) the 28-135mm, and liked that lens better overall. Less range, but better image quality, has image stabilization, full-time manual focusing, and the much smoother/quieter ring USM autofocus. While it's not a fair cost comparison, I'm much happier with the 24-105mm IS f/4 and 70-200mm f/2.8 IS L combination. The 28-200mm is a fine all in one lens at modest cost. I gave it to my sister, and she likes it overall, but has begun to crave a bit better image quality.
Expertise: Working on it.
Problems Encountered: CA, noisy autofocus, lack of image stabilization, lame manual focus ring, lots of barrel distortion wide angle.
Previous Equivalent Item Owned: 28-135mm IS USM
Items I Recommend: Tripod.

Comments about Canon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM Autofocus Lens:
Very versatile zoom lens and precise focusing. You won't need any other lens if you're using it for turism or day-to-day photo.
If you're more into photography, probably you'd like to look for a f/2.8, but they're way more expensive.
The only negative point is slow focusing in low light

This lens covers the entire range of lengths that I need to take all the scenic and nature pictures that I need. I can take wide angle to telephoto. I just love it.

For the price, you can't beat this lens. It takes nice, clear photos but I find it autofocus a little slow when shooting at high shutter speeds. If you need a walk around lens that gets you closer to the action, this lens is a must have.

This lens if fabulous! I am a recreational photographer who uses my camera primarily for shots of my kids, scenery, etc. This is the only lens I carry 95% of the time - replaces standard and telephoto lenses. I would highly recommend this lens.

Comments about Canon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM Autofocus Lens:
I love this lens. The focal length makes it applicable to nearly everything I shoot - from weddings to portraits.
I used it so much the first time around that I wore it out and had to buy it again. (I was a little rough on it) - my fault, nothing to do with the manufacture.

I do portrait photography for a living and this lens is perfect. I can get up close to my subject for beautiful frame filling portraits or I can shoot from a distance and get that perfect candid portrait. This lens is perfect and inexpensive.

I really love this lens, The fact that it is a 28-200 makes it better, no need to change lenses, a great walk around lens. The only thing is that the zooming isn't very smooth, if it was smooth zooming lens it would be perfect! The USM provides smooth fast quiet focus, definitely a great upgrade from the 18-55mm kit lens.

It was so hard to decide after reading so many reviews. So many different opinions. Was this the right lens, the one I was looking for?
Well now that I have it I have to say yes. I needed an all in one everyday lens. This is it. I´m very happy with it. It has proved to be all it offered. The only thing I miss is the stabilizer.

On the trail when my 28-300 IS is just too much to carry, this the best replacement I have found. It focuses fast enough to be very productive. Negligible losses on the corners. Images are sharp & clear and very easy to work with.

Comments about Canon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM Autofocus Lens:
I purchased this lens to use as an everyday, mid-range lens so I wouldn't have to carry around several lenses and it works beautifully! I took only this lens on an island vacation and took many beautifully sharp images. I felt that the quality of the image produced by using this lens with my Canon digital rebel SLR was outstanding and well worth the price. I know people say the quality of the photo is mostly dependent on the photographer, but this lens will help tremendously!

Comments about Canon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM Autofocus Lens:
This lens was affordably priced to allow me to gradually increase my collections of lenses. The operation is smooth. I wish it had the IS, but then I guess it wouldn't have been affordable for my budget. I was finally able to take a photo with a soft blur in the background which means I didn't have to rely on Photoshop to improve my photo.

This lens is a very handy lens, value for money and you dont need extra lenses to take with.I compared the lens with Canon's 18-200 lens but because of this lens 72mm size I chose it ontop of the 18-200. wasnt a bad choice. I use it for sport action, school play's and weddings.
Great lens.

Comments about Canon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM Autofocus Lens:
I have been using the Canon 75-300 USM to shoot sports (swimming, water polo, baseball) for the last few years. However, when it came to capturing the spontaneous group shots that happen on the pool deck or in the dugout, I would have to change to the stock 18-55 for the wide angel. I purchased this lens to reduce or hopefully eliminate that issue. This lens is fabulous for this purpose and easy to focus, but I do loose a little on the zoom end when the kids are on the other side of the pool or playing field as I am very used to the close-ups of facial expressions, etc. I also plan to make this the only lens I carry when traveling-again, to capture the group shots, but also the area around.

I'd been told that with this lens, I would be so satisfied that I wouldn't ever want another zoom.
I wouldn't go that far...but, it's a good lens, especially for a beginner...light weight and versatile.

I recently took a trip to Sea World in San Diego, CA and was able to get some great shots of Shamu. I was able to sit far enough away to not get wet, yet I was still able to get some great close-ups. I was even able to take pictures inside of the penguin exhibit with little available light. The lens also did a great job when I took pictures of the Beluga whales from the underwater view.
This lens is very versatile.

Comments about Canon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM Autofocus Lens:
When I first got this lens, it was great. strong clear images. But as time goes on it seems lke the images are getting worse and worse. At first i thought it had something to do with the camera itself. But then I tried a friends lens that is the exact same one and it was back to it's clear imaging again. Even with the high iso grain reduction and the long exposure grain reduction, it still is slightly grainy. I fixed that somewhat by changing the dust delete data on my camera, but there's still a amall amount of grain. You almost have to over expose it to not get any grain. I've tried cleaning it and the sensor and notheing works. it doesn't like low light very much but hte long exposure grain reduction helps a lot.
