Comments about Alan Gordon Enterprises Engraved Combo Slate:
The slate board is perfect. It has a substantial feel and it will last a lot longer being engraved. Including a marker and a storage bag was a nice touch too. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the travel bag zipper keeps getting stuck (it is cheaply made) and I feel like the price is on the high end for a very nice peice of plastic.

Comments about Alan Gordon Enterprises Engraved Combo Slate:
This has been in heavy use for the past week on an indy film project. Clapper makes a nice clean 'crack' sound. Built in magnet keeps clapper boards together nicely. Supplied dry erase marker works perfectly and erases completely. Carrying pouch is really a nice feature to keep the marker around when not in use. One item, the board is very shiny and if you hold it at a wrong angle the reflection can make the writing unreadable. This would be a problem with any whiteboard-based system, however.

I used this in taping commercial and documentary footage.
It does the job and is well made. Back side works fairly well as a white balance card.

The price is good, the size is great. Better than this, only an electronic slate.

After reading many reviews about other slates, I hesitated about this one also. However, the slate remains solid. I have no problems with erasing what I wrote. It is sturdy, thick and it has a good claping sound. (no pun intended) lol.
It's going to be with me for a looooong time. It seems pricey, but it's going to last.

It's a slate all right. It's made well enough, the hinge is good and it has a good board on it. It comes with a dry erase marker too.

The combo slate is very well made but a bit expensive for a school teacher's budget. I'm happy that I need only one.

Comments about Alan Gordon Enterprises Engraved Combo Slate:
I use this slate only for syncing multiple camera setups. I have to say that when I got the slate I was very impressed with the quality. The words on the slate are Engraved, so they stick up slightly from the whiteboard and it looks very professional. Also, the clapboard itself is relatively well put together. It is a little flimsy in that it tends to slide from side to side a little bit too much for me to call it solid. It isn't enough for me to warrant sending it back, but it sways enough to notice. The other good thing is that the back of the slate is also a whiteboard. This came in particularly handy when you are doing a scripted sitdown interview and the person has trouble remembering their lines and what they are supposed to say. I had a shoot like that and in order to deal with it, I flipped the slate over and scripted an outline out on the spot... Held it in front of the camera and VIOLA... worked like a charm... Plus the quick thinking impressed the people we were doing the video for, so that never hurts either.
Overall, for the price, I would say this is a steal of a deal and you would certainly enjoy having this. Not only does it look professional, but the quality seems like it will last for years.
