I mostly like this slate because it has the color sticks which matches the standard size slate. Most insert slates by Don Ear or Filmtools only have black & white sticks. You can expect the highest quality from Birns & Sawyer. It is a great match to the standard size slate by B&S with color sticks. Easy to carry on your person for a quick slate of an unexpected insert shot. Makes me a better assistant.

It great if u just need a clapper & dont need to write on the slate. Its really hard for the camera to see any written text because the slate is too small for that purpose. The wooden slate came with a tiny crack at the joint but it doesnt affect the clapping for now.

The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is that the colored bands on the sticks are easily chipped. Otherwise it's great!

Works great with dry erase markers. Also, has a very strong hinge that gives an extremely crisp 'clap'. The size is perfect for productions where the camera operator needs to mark the scenes. You just have to be a few feet in front of the camera to get the whole slate in frame - no need to 'refocus' the camera. The size is also great because you can hold it in a small pouch (or use a glove clip) that's clipped to your belt for easy access.

I was trying to find a nice clapboard for my friends birthday. We're both into film and he wants to be a director when he grows up. This product looked nice, so I thought I would order it. About a week later, and opened up the package. It was SUPER TINY!!! It looks like a toy! This is a piece of garbage and deserves less than one star!

This slate is perfect for shooting movies or short films. cuts my editing time down drastically. the whiteboard lets me write the scenes ect. using dry erase markers. perfect and fast. turn it around for excellent white balance. perfect. couldn't ask for more!

Piecing together video strips while shooting dog events can get a little confusing. If you take the time to use this thing, editing gets a lot easier. The only reason not to give the five stars, I should have ordered a larger unit. Unit is well built and has a nice "snap". A professional impression is made to the bill payers!

This product can be used with whiteboard markers which is great. Make note of the size, which is quite small, but if you are OK with that, it is far easier to cary this unit around if you are shooting independant work on a small budget with a tiny crew.
The best feature for me are the color and greyscale bars on the clapper. It helps for post-production color adjusting!
