Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.
The "petal" shape of this lens hood maximizes the amount of hood coverage for the minimum amount of weight and hood area. This dedicated lens hood is designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.

Purchased this for my 18-200 EF-S IS lens because it didn't come with one. My previous lenses didn't come with one either and I never bought one for them, so this is my first lens hood. Didn't really know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. Easy to attach, easy to store (backward). This will stay with my camera all the time.

Bought this for 18-200mm lens. Honestly i had never used this before so it took me good 10 minutes to mount it the very first time, then after i managed to attach it right, it takes 2 seconds. I have used it a couple of times mainly for outside photography, the difference is quite visible.

Got this to fit my Canon 18-200I. S. lens. I first tried "PELH 72 Snap On Tulip Lens Hood", which did not allow me to attach a filter and was of poor quality. I sent the "off brand hood" back the NEXT day! I waited for my Canon Lens Hood...which I really LIKE. The Canon hood screws on, which also makes it more stable/ durable than the "Off Brand Hood" that I first tried. It was worth the wait!!! Much better quality than the off brand and you have room to attach filters. If you want the best, then buy the best...Canon!

This lens hood stays on my camera all the time, whether I'm outside or in, mainly because I think it looks cool.
But seriously if you are out in the sunshine it is a must have to protect your lens from flares caused by the sun.
I was concerned when mounting that it would rotate when I zoom but because of it's unique mount, the barrel rotates but the hood does not!

This is one accessory I had to have for my 7D. I was so glad when B&H notified me of its arrival. Not only does it give the shooter a look of professionalism it is very functional when shooting outdoors in sunlight ore in environments that are well lit. I would suggest using with an external flashes the built in flash can catch part of the hood and cast a shadow on your image. Don't settle for less! Well worth the wait!

Works perfectly for the 18-200mm lens. I suggest buying a UV filter for your lense , which extends the lens out a little bit because you will not be able to put the lens cap on/off easily with the hood on
