ILFORD PERCEPTOL is an extra fine grain developer which gives excellent image quality and very fine grain. It is optimized for use at the slower end of the exposure range. PERCEPTOL has been specially formulated to yield optimum results from high resolution lenses, to exploit the superb grain structure of ILFORD medium and slow speed films and to produce significantly finer grain in ILFORD fast films compared with a standard fine grain developer.

PERCEPTOL gives excellent results with any lens/film combination and is therefore ideal when texture and definition are critical; negatives processed in PERCEPTOL are capable of producing finer grain and better quality enlargements than those produced in a standard fine grain developer.

PERCEPTOL is supplied in powdered form and shows exceptional consistency throughout its working life. It is made up to a stock solution for normal tank and tray use, and can be further diluted 1+1 or 1+3 for users who prefer to use fresh solution each time.

Comments about Ilford Perceptol Developer (Powder) for Black & White Film:

I use this product to pull my Iford pan F to 32 asa and do the 1/3 extended development time. The long development time under carful temperature control allows for very consistent results. I get extremely small grain with a sharpness I have never seen before in B & W film. I shoot 6 x 7 and print using glass plates a must for the format and I have been told over and over that my work is the sharpest they have ever seen many think I shoot 4 X 5!

Comments about Ilford Perceptol Developer (Powder) for Black & White Film:

After having a break of using (B&W)film for tha last 12 years I was happy still finding this fine grain developer on offer. Being a powder developer it can be sent to any place worldwide, which is another important aspect for me living at the Red Sea. I think this developer is well known within the community and doesn't need that much explanation.

Comments about Ilford Perceptol Developer (Powder) for Black & White Film:

I have been working in a university darkroom, and they had the cheapest materials imaginable. When I decided to create my own darkroom, I decided I would work with quality. Yet this being one of the most expensive developers it is by far the best I have worked with and gives wonderful quality.

rate fomapan 100 at 50, develop for 7 minutes 45 seconds, and you have yourself some solid results.

Comments about Ilford Perceptol Developer (Powder) for Black & White Film:

The is the only developer I've found that gives me the OCD-quality scans I like with below-100 ISO films. It's slow to use and costs much more than anything else (you get about 1/4 as many uses from it), but unquestionably worth it for those that view their work as art.

There are other developers people prefer (Rodinal, X-tol, etc.), but I find those developers don't yield a negative that scans nearly as well as Perceptol.
