A few short months after their introduction, the Monitor One Studio Reference Monitors became winners of a TEC Award, the reason being that they provided a wide frequency range, clear imaging, high-power handling and excellent bass transient response, all at an affordable price. The Monitor One Mk2 Studio Reference Monitors build on that tradition while delivering even better performance.
New 6.5" polypropylene low-frequency drivers deliver tighter, more accurate bass response. These are matched with newly redesigned 1" pure silk-dome high frequency transducers that deliver a smooth and even response, provide more detail and a broader sound stage. The overall frequency response of the Monitor One Mk2 monitors has been increased at the top end, coupled with more efficient power handling.
The cabinets of the Monitor One Mk2 have been redesigned and are now mirror image, left/right pair for symmetrical speaker placement. They also feature radiused edges for reduced edge diffraction, along with improved porting which delivers an improved low-frequency response. Magnetic shielding is provided to allow for their use in close proximity to video and computer monitors.

Comments about Alesis Monitor One Mk2 Monitors:
I use the Alesis Monitor Ones Mk2 in my project studio for all my tracking and mixing. I produce and write several styles of music which includes jingles and scores for films and commercials, dance, pop, rock, R&B and hip hop/rap. I also do post production editing for video and multimedia. My studio encompasses vintage analogue gear with the latest digital technology.
I had the original MK1s for almost 15 years and really relied on them for just about everything. During those years I replaced the tweeters about three times and one woofer after doing many years of rap and dance tracks. These speakers really took a beating!
The older ones were a bit more bass heavy in my room but the newer MK2 model seems to be much brighter and have more clarity to them. I am definitely hearing more detail on MK2s.
It is taking a little time to adjust to them but overall I am very happy with the new design. I hope they will be as reliable as my old ones and last at least another 15 years if not more! Hopefully I will last as long too!
I opted for passive monitors instead of active ones because I own two really good power amps that are still in excellent condition. I guess when they go I will opt for the more expensive amped monitors.
The reason I bought the MK2 was because one of my dance remix engineers blew a tweeter on my MK1s. I would have replaced the last broken tweeter but the tweeters for the Mk1s are hard to find and they cost almost $100.00 with the shipping and all. It was very cost effective to make the switch to the newer technology Mk2s. B&H was selling them for a very good price.
I have had the opportunity to check my mixes in dozens of major studios in the New York City area including the multi-milion dollar SONY Studios where I brought my mixes to the A room for mastering. The engineers there were quite impressed and complimentary about my sound quality. I was able to hear my mixes on Sony's mega system speakers and was happy to hear that my mixes held up. If the new Mk2s are as good as my old ones, then I am good to go. Time will tell. So far so good. Excellent bang for the buck! If you still have power amps I highly recommend the Alesis Monitors Mk2s.

I use the MK2's for my business KahokSports.com to monitor my Play by Play guy during games (I run it all from my home studio thru an audio interface) and in my home studio, they SOUND AWESOME, I use them in producing and mastering commercials for clients..They sound great and are perfect for me and more than I expected.I find them clean and crisp and thats what I need when producing, to be able to hear it all. Everyone has different needs, for me, you cannot go wrong in a home studio with these bad boys or girls..you choose ;)

Comments about Alesis Monitor One Mk2 Monitors:
The speakers have a nice clean and clear sound. For the price I think they are hard to beat. Good for mixing because they have a nice flat sound. These are better for mixing than getting powered speakers with a bunch of treble and bass controls on it which give you an untrue sound. Those are good just for listening. So I recommend them for good quality for the price. Can't go wrong.
