The Sony BCT-40HD/2 HDCAM Videocassette, Small incorporates advanced metal tape technology for use in an HDCAM format camcorder for 1080 high definition recordings. The development of this high performance metal tape enables high density recording with a wavelength of 0.49um. This tape has 40 minutes of recording time in 60i frame rate mode.

- Advanced metal particle tape technology provides >45db carrier-to-noise ratio and low headwear for superb digital performance

- Advanced Metal Tape Technology is used to increase high-density recording performance standards
- Outstanding durability is achieved by using an alumina-silica tape protective layer
- Special lubricant protects tape surface and maintains optimal contact with VCR heads

I used this to make a film festival submission copy of a a Final Cut Pro project that was DVCPRO HD 960x720 with a frame rate of 23.98. The output looked way better on a proper monitor playing off this HDCAM tape than it did on my MacBook screen. I like how rich and deep the blacks are, compared to other tape formats.

If you want a safe and high quality way to back up your media in a secure non-digital manner, this is the way to go. Analog may be going the way of the dodo for most things, but as far as a tangible piece of storage is concerned you cannot ask for more. Highly recommended.

We use it for a feature film in Costa Rica, the excellent material from SONY's F900/3 keep it here is just great!! The only not convensing was that it records only 1440x1080 at 8-bit... well there's the SR tapes.
