The G2380 fluid head, is ideally suited to both lightweight ENG and home video camcorders, enabling professional, smooth panning and solid locking. The G2380 will also work well with long telephoto lenses for still photography following a moving subject, making it easier to achieve one of the most exciting photographic effects, with the subject sharp against a blurred, streaked background.
The fluid effect video head uses friction to smooth the movements, adjustable on both the pan and the tilt planes to suit the weight of the camera. Each of the movements can also be locked solid by simply tightening the knob in the center of the friction control.
The design of the head allows it to be set up for either left or right handed operation. It includes a dual direction, quick release plate to assist in easy fixing of the camera from the front or rear with a secondary safety catch to protect your camera.

I wanted to get a pan head along with 60D. Even after reading all the positive reviews about the Bogen head, I was not too sure to get that. Asked a BH rep to suggest a head in that price range for my Gitzo legs and he suggested this instead. This a beautiful head, more than enough for my needs right now. Smooth pan and tilt with 60D & 70-200 IS.

I was looking for a reasonably priced lightweight fluid head to mount on an existing 'flat head' carbon fiber stills tripod. This fits the bill.
PROs: The build quality is excellent and should take whatever punishment hiking & weather will throw at it. The controls are well placed and easily meet the hand. The weight for hiking use is very good.
CONs: This is not a fluid head to be doing pan & tilt moves with anything longer than a 75mm equivalent. Simple pans or tilts work well but a combination move is problematic; the controls and feathering just cannot be set to allow smooth starts & stops and the controls are hard to balance to get 'equal' resistance on both axes.
I would recommend this to anyone on a budget looking for a well-built durable fluid head but who does not need complex moves.

Comments about Gitzo G2380 Video Fluid Head:
Gitzo states on their own webpage: ... this head (is) the ideal tool for photographers and bird watchers using long focal length lenses...
I am sorry. This is absolutely not true. I have run a series of tests since I bought this fluid head, and it can't support a 500/4, neither is it recommendable for lenses like the 300/2.8.
I don't like companies overselling their products. Gitzo does so in this case. And it just cost me money and time.

Comments about Gitzo G2380 Video Fluid Head:
This head is good for the home user who wants a fluid head. For pro video, it only smoothly pans and tilts at wide angle to medium. With a Canon AH1 on telephoto, it was not acceptable. I also did not prefer the locking mechanism, which required too much of a twist to lock quickly.

Comments about Gitzo G2380 Video Fluid Head:
It's a good choice for light vid cameras and vid DSLR's. Gitzo quality and smooth action on diagonal movements. It's not to be compared to a $1,000+ head, but I think it's a great option for the still shooter who shoots an occasional video and wants smooth pans and tilts.

The G2380 works as expected. I handle my Canon 5D MK II with a 70-200mm f2.8 without any problems. It is smooth and a good alternate to the higher price fluid heads that are $1000 or more.

For those on a budget and want a fluid head that's not a bottom basement model but can't afford the premium stuff, this head is for you!
With a little practice one can get reasonably smooth pans.

Comments about Gitzo G2380 Video Fluid Head:
It was somewhat hard to decide on a video head for my tripod, and noting
that most were in the over $1,000. So I went by brand and reputation, many
of my photography friends use Gitzo products. So they have produced a
winning video fluid head. True it is "like" a fluid head but for my small
production it performs just fine. Gitzo has a winner here.
