This 24mm lens has a fast f/1.8 maximum aperture with macro focusing capability (minimum focusing distance is 7.1" for a reproduction ratio of 1:2.7). The 9-bladed aperture diaphragm obtains beautiful, circular out of focus characteristics. It incorporates a floating focus system and uses two aspherical elements for minimized distortion, spherical aberration and astigmatism. The lens front does not rotate during focusing, thus allowing the use of a "perfect hood" and the easy polarizing filters. Optical construction was created to minimize light falloff (darkening of the image corners) at maximum aperture-a big benefit particularly for digital cameras. Materials used in this lens are lead and arsenic free ecological glass.

Comments about Sigma W/A 24mm f/1.8 EX Aspherical DG DF Macro AF Lens:
I have a 50mm 1.4 that I love, but it's a little tight in small rooms and I also wanted a Macro. This lens is great and does what I needed it for. In a wide open shot, it has some color bleeding on the edges which bothers me, but I can live with it. Check the Flickr group for this lens if you'd like to see good images that have been taken with it. I found that helpful.

Comments about Sigma W/A 24mm f/1.8 EX Aspherical DG DF Macro AF Lens:
The Sigma 24mm f1.8 is not too shabby.
Focus is a little slow, wide open the images are acceptable, stopped down nice and sharp. But why buy this lens to shoot at f8?
I don't think the lens is particularly big or heavy, compared to pro lenses.

Comments about Sigma W/A 24mm f/1.8 EX Aspherical DG DF Macro AF Lens:
I had this before going to my Alaska trip, and really loved it. Ever since then, it is one of my favorite lens.
It is very fast, great for low light, and very sharp when shot around f5.6. Aperture blade is made of 9 blades and shows very beautiful bokes.
One of my favorite feature is it has manual mode -- when set, it gives nice Torque.
Downside is it is very heavy and huge (77mm filter size), a typical downside of good quality retro focus wide lens for SLR.
