This 20mm is a Super wide-angle lens with a large aperture of f/1.8 and angle of view 94.5°. It has Macro focusing capability with a minimum focusing distance of just 7.9", for a reproduction ratio of 1:4. The 9-bladed iris diaphragm obtains beautiful out of focus image characteristics. Aspherical lens elements in the front & rear lens groups minimize distortion, spherical aberration and astigmatisms. The lens has non-vignetting optical construction in order to obtain adequate peripheral brightness with wide apertures-especially desirable for digital cameras. The lens incorporates a rear focus system eliminating front lens rotation. The focusing ring does not rotate during autofocus yet provides adequate focusing torque of the focusing ring during manual focusing of the lens. The lens materials used in this new lens are lead and arsenic free ecological glass.

I use this lens on my 5D Mark II. This is my second Sigma lens purchase after the impressive 50mm f/1.4. I was considering the Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 II as my super wide option. However, the f/1.8 and price point of this lens trumped the zoom of Canon. You can use this lens at a BRIGHT 82mm f/1.8! Minimal image distortion makes this my super wide lens; while I consider my 14mm f/2.8 a creative lens. Auto focus speed is fair but consistent. For video, this is a DSLR game changer...so PRETTY, so CRISPY, so BRIGHT and W-I-D-E! The 20cm minimal focus distance makes this lens very versatile. It uses the Redrock Micro Follow Focus C gear.

I bought this lens as an economical wide-angle for my Canon 5D MkII as it was priced dramatically under a comparable L-series fast wide angle prime. It gives a wide view angle alright, one with a LOT of optical distortion, more than the lens preset in Lightroom could correct for most of the test shots I took. The image quality and clarity, even at f/22 just isn't up to par with what a 5D can produce with better glass in front of the sensor. And as other people have indicated, the autofocus is both very slow and noisy. All in all a major disappointment. This lens is now destined for an online auction, hopefully I can recoup enough of my cash outlay to put towards an L-series wide angle prime in the not-too-distant future. If you don't have a full-frame DSLR and need a super wide angle prime on a budget maybe this lens won't be as big a letdown. I accept I made a mistake by trying to put [...] tires on a Ferrari, to mangle a metaphor.

A little soft fully wide open but fine for my video needs on Canon 60D and 7D. The low light ability makes it a great investment in your lens kit if you can afford to add it. I think it's the best deal out there for a low light prime wide.

Comments about Sigma Super W/A 20mm f/1.8 EX Aspherical DG DF RF AF Lens:

I just purchased this lens to use with my Canon 7D for primarily steadicam and dolly work. The wideness of the angle and the low light capabilities make it a very versatile piece of glass. The minimum focusing distacne is also a great plus. Being that I use it for mostly video I did not get a chance to test the speed of the auto focus. The only negative is a slightly soft focus, and little range between foacl points. Other than that, it is well built

Comments about Sigma Super W/A 20mm f/1.8 EX Aspherical DG DF RF AF Lens:

I use this lens mostly for steadicam and dolly work using a Canon 7D. The lens provides a nice wide angle considering the cropped frame of the 7D. I also like that the lens has a very minimal focusing distance. The lens could be a little more sharp, and could use a little more range between focal lenghts. Having said that, I would definitely recommend this lens due to it's versatility.

Comments about Sigma Super W/A 20mm f/1.8 EX Aspherical DG DF RF AF Lens:

I tried out 4 different lenses at B&H in New York in the range of 20-28 mm. This one has the most bang for it's buck. On the downside, it adds a lot of weight to your Camera, but this is due to the quality of the build and glass inside. It has incredible sharpness, a perfect cylindrical bokeh, very beneficial aperture range(up to 1.8) and it allows you to get as close to your subject as you would like. For those with cropped sensors like myself. It gives you a wonderful true 40 mm equivalent focal length. However. It does have a quick adjust for AF and MF that is not totally compatible with the canon, or atleast my 60D. It's not a downfall for the lens, but it would be cool if it worked well.

Price versus optics...this lens is absolutely amazing. I really don't think you can purchase a lens at this price and get this level of quality. Highly recommended. But don't listen to me! Across multiple websites...you will find that this lens has a consistent rating of 4 to 5 stars. There is a reason for that.

This lens is amazing for shooting video. Of all the fixed lenses I shoot with, this is definitely my favorite. At a fast 1.8 you have a ton of DOF control not to mention an amazing minimum object distance feeling close to macro. The lens is wide enough to where you can shoot video handheld without the shake you would get with a 50mm or 85mm. The only lens that competes with this is the canon 24mm 1.4, but in my opinion the extra 1/2 stop of light doesn't justify the price difference.

First off, when I read a product review I tend to ignore the 5 stars AND the single stars. I always feel the honesty is somewhere in the middle. After a few weeks of steady usage, the lens is consistently sharp, works great in low-light without a flash. This is a very solid build and it feels like a quality lens in your hands. I am 'generally' a Canon "L" fan, but this Sigma has been on my camera since I got it. Also, this is a near perfect video lens for hybrid DSLR.

That all said, auto-focus on this lens is on the slow side as well as noisy, but for what I use it for that is not a problem. You owe it to yourself to check this lens out and it is worthy of 4 stars.

Comments about Sigma Super W/A 20mm f/1.8 EX Aspherical DG DF RF AF Lens:

Before purchasing this lens, I read some reviews saying that images were too soft when shooting wide open. My first shots (I've had the lens for 3 days now)have pleased me very much. Even at f1.8, the images I've taken have been sharp and crisp. Moreover, autofocus performance was fine.I'm glad I wasn't discouraged by the negative reviews. I think this lens is going to earn its place in my kit.[...]

Use on my T2i, great lens for wide angles. A bit bulky, as Sigma can be. A bit rough when attaching to the body, but nothing to be really concerned about.

Comments about Sigma Super W/A 20mm f/1.8 EX Aspherical DG DF RF AF Lens:

Great lens for video ... excellent value for F/1.8 and especially nice for use on Steadicam. Strong vignetting on wide open F-stops on full-frame camera, but this works well for video. Almost flawless performance on APS-C sensor (canon 7D, 50D, T2i etc.) Hyper-focal Distance can be quite far off at low wide apertures, but a little focusing will give you great DOF if you know the range in which you'll be shooting.

Comments about Sigma Super W/A 20mm f/1.8 EX Aspherical DG DF RF AF Lens:
