The VZ-TFT-7 monitor serves two valuable purposes for the serious videographer. First, it functions as an external video display, allowing the shooter to step back from the camera while recording (no more bending over to peek through a tiny viewfinder). Combined with a tripod-mounted camera and a VariZoom lens controller, the VZ-TFT-7 emulates a 16:9 studio-style rig costing thousands of dollars. Used on a hand-held camera, the VZ-TFT-7 enables the operator to walk around with ease while accurately framing shots. Additionally, the VZ-TFT-7 provides a highly compact and affordable alternative to bringing a conventional CRT video monitor into the field for video playback.
Use the VZ-TFT-7 to review footage on an airplane or any other small space. Whether mounted on the camera using the optional swivel shoe mount (VZ-Shoe) or near the camera using the included stand, the monitor provides instant playback of footage for small groups. This monitor easily switches between 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratio as well as helpful image orientation controls for DOF adapters.
Note! Shoe mount and battery must be purchased separately

I really liked this monitor and it works well with my camera. Yes, record in HD too, but didn't expect to get HD quality type of images on the monitor. So for the guy that left the review prior to mine....I don't know why you spent money on a cheaper monitor and expect HD quality image.
I use this for my SteadiCam and it works really well. I expected the colors to be good, which they are. I expected it to mount on my SteadiCam, which it does. In my opinion, this monitor is a great buy for its money. If you want to get a good quality image on a monitor then this is what you should get for a cheap price.
If you want crazy features and HD quality image, then spend more. "You get what you pay for". In this case it is definantly worth the cost.
The batts mount perfectly on the bottom and the wire connecting to the monitor hangs, but it isn't something that double-sided tape can't fix. I rather have some extra cable that hangs and allows for me mount it the way I want, rather than getting something exact and unable to mount it the way I want.
So I would say....Buy this if are in a bind for money and you need a product that SIMPLY WORKS. This works great for me and I have no problems with video image and nor should you.

Not bad for the price-point.
I bought this to see what I was shooting when using my camera on my jib arm. It's purpose is to show me what I'm shooting, and that's what it does.

I bought this to see what I was shooting when using my camera on my jib arm. It's purpose is to show me what I'm shooting, and that's what it does.
The image quality is acceptable, and what you expect for the price. Bear in mind though, that it is not a HD CRT field monitor. You are getting what you pay for.
It is not suitable for focus or color reference. It does come with brightness and saturation controls which I was able to adjust to get an acceptable image.
The unit is lightweight and easy to use, with image filp and various ratios.
I got about 2 hours of continuous run time from a single battery. I would definately advise buying additonal batteries, as I have, they're really quite cheap too.
Of course there is no BNC connectors on this unit, if you're wanting something with more professional inputs, and great image quailty for focus and color reference you need to look elsewhere. However, if you're just after a video assist montior for framing, you really can't go past this unit for value.

Comments about VariZoom VZ-TFT7 7" LCD Monitor:
I use this as a larger screen than the viewfinder on our camera to watch what I am shooting. It does not have any guides (rule of thirds, 16:9 area, etc.) and only has rca input; plus you have to have an outlet handy to plug it into. Also, if you just order the monitor by itself make sure you also order the shoe mount (didn't realize this until after I got the monitor). Also, the resolution on the monitor is not the best & you definitely need to set the color, brightness, etc. to make sure you are getting a good idea of what you are shooting (but hey, it is just a monitor, you aren't using it to get the correct color, etc.). Anyways, for the price, I would probably buy some more if we had more than 1 camera.

This product was very usefull for its price. Easy to handle and long lasting batteries. I would not recommend it for single use, but in addition to the little camera monitor it works excellent.

The VZ-TFT7 was a fairly inexpensive monitor, yet performed well on the Cobra Crane Boom. Just make sure you change the settings to ensure correct aspect ratio to match your camera etc.

A great preview monitor for those extra sets of eyes on the set. Clear, good size, nice travel bag and accessories.
The only cons - short battery life. Plan on extra batteries if you are using in the field without a hard power connection.

I use this monitor with my Sony EX-1 and a Glidecam jib. I chose the kit which included the power supply, mounting bracket, and hood.
The monitor's image is clear, bright, and visible even in high ambient light conditions.

This LCD isn't so good for HDV or HD cameras because low resolution cannot usable for focusing with DOF adapter. But for composition view is good.

Comments about VariZoom VZ-TFT7 7" LCD Monitor:
I must say that I'm really disappointed with this purchase. This monitors picture quality is not even as good as a cheap portable DVD player. It cannot be used for critical focus or color reference. It's only plus is its image flip capability if you're using a 35mm adapter like a Redrock. I have to explain to clients that what they see on this [*] monitor is not what they will see on air.
