Comments about Porta Brace Sandbag - Empty - Holds 25 lbs:

The design and build quality of Portabrace products is hard to match. They are designed and manufactured in Vermont by Americans. But that's only the frosting on the cake. After buying one of these sandbags last year for a shoot I did on the east coast, I just purchased two more, for an upcoming shoot in Colorado. If you have to travel, but still need to set up lights, reflectors, scrims, flags, or cookies, you need to secure them with sandbags. These refillable sandbags are the Cadillac of refillable sandbags. The removable inner pouch actually keeps the sand, dirt, or rocks very contained, even enough to keep the outer pocket clean. This is helpful because I have found occasion to use the empty sand bag to protect items like books, etc. when nothing else is available. When you have to fly to a location, pop a couple of these in with your gear, fill them on location, and it's just like working off a grip truck. They're designed and sewn to last for decades, maybe more. I would challenge anyone to find a refillable sandbag that is built better than this one by Portabrace.

Comments about Porta Brace Sandbag - Empty - Holds 25 lbs:

It pretty much stays-put and helps to make everything else stay-put (as any good sandbag should do). The nylon bags inside of the zippered pockets to hold the ballast is a nice touch to prevent ballast spill. Everything that went into these bags is very well-designed.

The inner bags use a quick & easy fold-over hook & loop system which seems to keep even fine ballast inside the bag nicely; however, I'm not sure that the nylon bags will stand-up to repeated unloading/loading of ballast. If you mainly keep the ballast in place, these bags will probably last forever.

Perhaps it would be a nice touch to add some sort of durable but slightly grippy material on the interior panels when the bag is folded (as shown in the product image). This would help to hold the bags in place on inclined tasks and might help the bags stack without worrying about sliding.

Recommended extras: (1) a funnel to get the ballast neatly into the bag. (2) Ballast (Eg. construction grade sand, "play" sand, lead shot, etc.)

If you're a road warrior Portabrace's build quality is excellent. Has an interior bag with velcro so there's no sand spilling out.
