Sand bags come in a variety of shapes and weights. They are used for securing the bases of light stands and set walls. Many have handles, for hanging on hooks or risers. Some have two wings, to allow draping over light stand legs.
Most are cordura nylon, some are vinyl covered and waterproof.
Some models of sandbags are shipped empty, for convenience and economy. They can be filled with sand, or any type of weight you provide, and emptied for storage, or transport.

Comments about Matthews Junior Boa Weight Bag:
it is small, it is black, it weighs 10 lbs.
What's not to like?
seriously, way better than larger sand bags at the same weight, at least for me, concerned about space of all my gear in the case/vehicle.

Comments about Matthews Junior Boa Weight Bag:
These things are awesome. They are more impressive in person, than in the picture. They are very easy to use, and one thing I love about them, is the grippy neck part, which wraps around your light stands to keep it in place.
They are also very compact for their weight.
My only complaint, is that the price of these things seems to keep going up, not to mention, they are expensive to ship. That is my only reason for giving 4 stars, because it is a 5 star product.

Comments about Matthews Junior Boa Weight Bag:
These steel shot filled bags are great. I use them to stabilize light stands and they wrap around and stay put. Works great. High quality finish and feel.

Comments about Matthews Junior Boa Weight Bag:
I have used sandbags for years, this is the best I have used. It doesn't leak sand like most bags due (not even sure what is inside of it). I love that you can wrap it around a lightstand instead of hanging it from the adjustment knob. After watching a studio light blow over I always use sandbags. Highly recommend.

Comments about Matthews Junior Boa Weight Bag:
The boa bags may be more expensive than alternatives, but they work great. The fact that they can wrap around means they won't fall off and the weight is nicely distributed.
They are well built and I'm sure will last forever.
I plan to get some more of the different weights.

Comments about Matthews Junior Boa Weight Bag:
I mostly shoot on location and often need to weight down light stands. The Boa is a great concept, easy to use and small in size making it much easier to pack. The build quality is good, as I would expect from MSE. I have not had the bag for that long so I cannot comment on durability but I would expect it to last a good long time.
