Alesis has combined their experience in reference monitor design and studio amplification to deliver the M1Active MKII Bi-Amplified Studio Reference Monitors. The speakers offer accurate response that translates well to other playback systems. The internal active crossover and custom-designed dual amplifiers ensure an extremely consistent performance under a variety of different studio conditions and program material.
The woofer and tweeter of the monitors were specifically designed to provide a linear, low distortion response. The 6.5" woofer cone is formulated from a non-woven carbon fiber, a material that has been used for the skin of combat aircraft wings. Since it offers high tensile strength and low weight (25% lighter than polypropylene) the driver is able to provide quicker transient response in the low frequency range for good bass response. The 1" tweeter dome is made of pure silk, and offers a natural response that aids in preventing ear fatigue during long mix sessions.
The bass driver amplifiers of the M1Active MKII monitors deliver a healthy 75 watts and the high frequency amplifiers provide 25 watts for the tweeters. The 8th order high and low-pass electronic crossover filters have a crossover point carefully chosen at a low 1.5kHz, that helps produce an extremely wide dispersion zone as well as low midrange coloration. Additionally, time alignment circuitry has been added to the tweeter section of the crossovers that allows the output of frequencies from the high and low drivers to occur in perfect synchronization, thus avoiding time smear. Dual front-mounted ports provided fast, coherent and extended low frequency augmentation.
The M1Active MKII monitors are magnetically shielded and can be mounted in either a horizontal or vertical placement.

Comments about Alesis M1Active MKII 6.5" 2-Way Studio Monitor (Pair):
These monitors are solid with no frills. They simply do what they were designed to do; give you a good reference base in order for you to craft a final mix that will sound good to anyone else who listens on a car stereo or their computer system. Not only that but they are a great price. These are just right for the bedroom studio.

Comments about Alesis M1Active MKII 6.5" 2-Way Studio Monitor (Pair):
I'm a high school student with several years of professional music and video production experience. I use KRK Rokit's in my home studio and these for video editing. The frequency response is clearly not as accurate as the Rokits but for video they are good enough. Just don't expect an amazingly accurate reference monitor for mastering a soundtrack.

Comments about Alesis M1Active MKII 6.5" 2-Way Studio Monitor (Pair):
I use these speakers with my computer's delta 1010 sound card and they are crystal clear and quite powerful for there size. The styling/design of these speakers is flawless-they look well built and the sound that they produce certainly matches. I did have a little learning to do with the placement of the speakers and using the dual ports on them but thats half of the fun of a new toy. I could see this as overwhelming though to a sound novice. Also, to clarify my comment about the jack, the xlr input is sweet, but can be difficult to match with, it seems you almost always use an adapter but the great thing is that the sound quality will never diminish whether over 10 or 500 feet. All in all, I'm really happy with my product and can't stop listening to these bad boys.

Comments about Alesis M1Active MKII 6.5" 2-Way Studio Monitor (Pair):
These studio monitors were purchased for video post-production at a small marketing company. They are rarely used due to the small confines of the office (mostly edit with headphones). It was a major frustration when the right speaker died within the first three months of ownership. We sent the speaker to the Alesis repair center to have it fixed under warranty. It came back over 30 days later as discussed in their warranty service email.
With the repaired speaker back in action we were able to get another 17 months use out of it before the same speaker went bad again. I contacted customer service to inquire about a total replacement or repair and I was told I was out of warranty and therefore I needed to contact an independent service center.
After some scouring of the internet for further reviews it looks like this is possibly a design problem. I would not recommend these speakers or the Alesis brand. I would hope that an international company would have better products and stand behind them when there was a design flaw.
