The Azden SMH-1 is a camera mount shock absorbing shotgun microphone holder.
The SMH-1 features a single piece housing with flexible bands to hold the shotgun securly and to isolate it from unwanted vibration and noise. It has a built-in shoe mount and standard 3/8" threads on the bottom of the holder for mounting to a boom pole or tripod.

I ordered this as a replacement for a broken shock mount that came with a condenser mic I got a few years ago.
I had been using the old shockmount with a shotgun mic since I started doing video production and it broke a few weeks ago after the wind blew over the mic stand it was on.
I needed a replacement right away, and this price was perfect. This is far superior in quality than my previous shock mount. It fits MULTIPLE sizes of diameter of microphones and even comes with replacement bands!
But the thing that really sets this apart is the ability to mount this pretty much wherever you want. inside of the housing, it has a counter-sunk hole on the bottom so you can attach this to the end of a pole or other surface so you can use this with something OTHER than a hotshoe mount.
The only thing I would change would be it is fixed in the same 90 degree position. (No ability to pivot or change the angle of the mic), but for the price and the build quality, it is a steal.

Mounted to a Canon HV20 and it helps quell the camera noise, however it's not perfect. It's hard to quantify the effect it has but I'd say it knocks it down 80%. It still picks up a bit of zoom servo noise (but only on high speed zoom) and it also picks up the spinning tape head. Focus noise is imperceptible. Camera buttons are still telegraphed to the microphone thru the mount. This is not a cure all for this particular camera. I bought a Sima video bracket [@] and it seems to have just about solved the camera noise issue. I use an Azden SMX-10 mounted to the Azden shockproof mount, mounted to the Sima video bracket.

If this fits your budget it's better than going without a shock mount. Good for 1" diameter mics max.

This shock mount is great. It seems more sturdy than some other mounts. The extra bands are great. I like that it has the adjustment screw on the bottom of the camera mount to make sure it wont come loose. I use it with my Beyerdynamic MCE86.

Comments about Azden SMH-1 Shock Mount for Shotgun Mics:
I bought this to use with a normal shotgun mic and a small 4" sony shotgun on my DSLR. I found the rubber bands to be VERY stiff and hold both mics far too tight. As a result they provided very little shock absorption. I took it back to B&H and talked to the audio guy there, I went with the AT8415 which is larger, has a tilting head, and MUCH softer bands, and worked with both of my mics.
Spend the money, get the AT8415, or just DIY with PVC and rubberbands, either will be better than this.
Also, their is no threaded mounting holes anywhere on the bottom, even though the images suggest their might.

Gets rid of most shock sounds and vibrations, cannot beat the price. The hot shoe mount screw came loose once but is an easy fix for anyone with a screwdriver and half a brain

This shock mount is not the correct size for mounting to my boom pole. I must return it.
If the size suits you, it seems to be a fine shot mount, so 5 stars.

Comments about Azden SMH-1 Shock Mount for Shotgun Mics:
Comes with a couple extra rubberband things in case one breaks. I like that it's directional, that way for a really long mic you can mount it backwards (with the mic forward obviously) in order to move the mic further back and out of your shot. I can't justify the high priced options. This works perfectly.
Side note: With my AT8035 connected to my 60D via Pearstone LMT-100 transformer cable, I was getting lots of hiss, so in general, I wouldn't recommend on camera mics for pro use unless you can pump the signal from the mic, and turn down the audio level on your camera (a la Videomic Pro) which I now use instead.

Comments about Azden SMH-1 Shock Mount for Shotgun Mics:
The mount is secure and works well. Keep in mind, it is only wide enough for shotgun mics...so you'll need another mount if you're using a different size mic. Great for mounting on a DSLR.

Comments about Azden SMH-1 Shock Mount for Shotgun Mics:
Used for HDSLR videography with a Sennheiser ME66 mounted on a shoulder rig. I also have a Rhode shock mount; I've already fixed the broken lock nut for the angle adjuster on the Rhode. The Azden doesn't have an angle adjuster making it more sturdy. I'm also less afraid I'm going to break the circular cage when I travel as I don't use much padding in my bags.
The only drawback is this wouldn't be as great for use on a boom because there isn't an angle adjuster and you need a cold shoe mount to attach it; the inside of the cold shoe is not threaded (the Rhode is, but you'd be wise to have a thread bushing 3/8-1/4 in your bag).

Comments about Azden SMH-1 Shock Mount for Shotgun Mics:
This is a simple, solid accessory, especially for HDSLR video shooters who are ready to graduate to pro quality microphones mounted on the camera. I use mine with the Audio-Technica AT897 shotgun. While there are a number of shock mounts available, I like this one for its price vs. build quality. Since there are a variety of mounting schemes used by HDSLR videographers, the limited height this mount gives isn't really an issue. It also has a couple of threaded holes for other mounting options forward of the built-in shoe mount. Might be nice if the attached mount could adjust, but I haven't really found a need for that yet.

Comments about Azden SMH-1 Shock Mount for Shotgun Mics:
This does the job of reducing motor noise and other camera handling noises. I noticed a little "twang" a couple of times in the final recording, so it's not perfect in removing all noise created by handling, but certainly better than having the mic directly on the camera.
