Circular Polarizer - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
NOTE: Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems and video cameras without problems).

Very good quality, sturdy and metal-like frame. Be careful with vignetting when going under 18mm of focal length, but that's not often a big problem.
Note also that when using this filter you will lose a few f-stops, as the filter is a little dark.
This works great as giving warm colors to grass, foilage, sky, and non-metal shiny objects by removing glare.
This filter screws into your lens. Make sure your lens has a diameter of 55mm or if you still want to use this filter on a smaller diameter lens, you will need to buy a step-up ring.

As an intermediate photographer, buying a polarizing filter was a no-brainer. I had struggled for a long time with white, blown out skies in my pictures and was desperate to find a way to remedy the problem.
The Hoya 55mm circular polarizing filter, for the most part, is a great way to counter this problem and I would recommend it to any photographer on a budget. The price was fair and the filter itself is constructed well enough. It does take some getting used to though, since you have to adjust the filter AFTER you have the image in focus (assuming you're using autofocus).
Again, I'm not a professional or even a seasoned photographer so I dont know much about higher end polarizers. That said, I truly love photography and this product is a welcome addition to my camera equipment. I cant imagine shooting outdoors, in bright sunlight without it.

Comments about Hoya 55mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:
Very nice filter. I wish that there was a little more to hold on to, as I have big hands, but from what I've seen I think that is true for all filters. I have not found the reduction in glare to be quite as intense as some have stated, but it is definitely very helpful. I did notice a slight dimming of the images, but it is not significant enough to cause much of an issue.

Comments about Hoya 55mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:
The polarizing filter has really changed the way my photos look. The colors are richer, and the sky is bluer, and it's been great taking pictures of all the new flowers in the spring time.
I've seen that the best results come at high noon, when the sun is at it's brightest, though I'm excited to try it out at dusk for my landscape water shots.
Good product.

I bought it for my Panasonic DMC-FZ50 (new 2006). I didn't know I could screw on other lenses, so I should have purchased this polarizer lens a few years ago. This lens makes a difference in contrasting the sky more. Great pictures.

Comments about Hoya 55mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:
Got a new used lens, needed a polarizer for it, same size as my other lens. The other polarizer is a Quantaray, and is sticky to turn. The new Hoya, however, is silky smooth. This makes it easier to adjust without disturbing the focus.
Hey, it's a Hoya - the best!
