Hoya 58mm Circular Polarizer Filter
Circular Polarizer - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
If you're out walking on a lovely day - in the mountains or at the beach - and you want to get a fabulous shot of a cloud-filled sky or make the water seem more saturated, then a polarizer is the way to go. This filter is the best way to make the clouds stand out, increase or decrease the saturation of the ocean or increase or decrease the reflection off the water. You can also use this filter when shooting into glass or windows since it will, again, either increase or decrease reflections.
If you're shooting black and white and want to simulate a threatening storm, try throwing on a Red filter. The vista will take on the appearance of an imminent, ominous storm.
Along with a UV or Skylight Filter, a polarizing filter should be a part of everyone's gear bag. It can turn a run-of-the-mill image into a stunning, creative photo by increasing color saturation.
The advantage of Hoya filters is that Hoya puts one layer of anti-reflective coating on each side of their glass. It is not bare glass. Even if the glass is not multi-coated, this kind of production tends to minimize flare and ghosting.
Hoya is one of the largest manufacturers of glass in the filter industry. In collaboration with its parent company, Tokina Optical, Hoya continues to strive to produce some of the best glass on the market. Currently, they hold 40% of the world's market for optical glass.
Note! Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems and video cameras without problems)
- This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays to remove haze from outdoor shots as well as polarizing the light to remove reflections, and increase color saturation, without affecting the overall color balance
- Can dramatically enhance a blue sky and make the clouds more prominent
- Used best at right angle to the sun

This is a wonderful little addition for a professional or serious amateur. I carry it in my car all the time, as you never know when you'll be photographing into glass and want to cut out the reflections. A disadvantage -- not specific to this brand necessarily -- is that you need to remove the lens hood whilst using this filter -- unless you also remove the UV filter, in which case you can put back the lens hood. This either-or situation is a pity, but unavoidable.

Not a high end product but for those of us on a budget this filter does the trick. I use it primarily to get rid of refections on water but also to bring out detail in clouds and it works well for both. I will say, however, that it can be difficult to determin the actual effect the filter will have after rotating but suspect that may have to do with a rather dark viewfinder window in my camera rather than the filter itself.

I use this for outdoor shots. Really sharpens the picture..deepens the blue sky etc. also good for shots at the pool - removes the white'ish flair.

+ Price is very reasonable, for my Canon kit lens this is a very nice CPL because when you add better lens the size will be wrong and the Pro-1 cost same as lens itself.
* Slow down the lens because this is quite dark, not a problem for CPL though cuz you either doing the sky which is bright or you are doing water which you usually want slower shutter.
- Not coated so it has quite strong reflections and glare, use your hand or a hat to block out the sun.

i take pictures of cars and this filter works very well. the contrast is great, the colors pop and the distracting reflections on the windows are gone. this is a great product that does what it's supposed to and the price isn't bad either. i will definately be buying from Hoya in the future.
