Circular Polarizer - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
NOTE: Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems and video cameras without problems).

One who only wishes to get rid of reflections that are not welcome will be glad to know that this filter does that and more. I am glad it has helped me enhance the beauty of a blue sky. You ought to be a bit cautious when choosing the white balance though, or it will tint your picture a little.
Another way it has pleased me is by adding some f-stops to the exposure and allowing you to shoot at a slower speed to create that foggy effect in running water.
I would say that it's an asset to carry one of these with you, but you must be careful not to let it stain your composition.

Got the first filter and right away noticed that the metal ring that keeps the glass inside the outer ring was wavy like it was bent then "fixed" then installed. [...] got a new one that had the same problem but not as bad and decided to keep it. Took my trip to Europe and on the last week we were there I decided to take it off and clean the filter on both sides. When I went to take it off the inside metal that holds the glass inside the outer ring popped off making the glass come out of the outer ring with some kind of oil as well. Bad product! From now on I'll pay the extra money and get the better German made brand none of those have broke on me and I've had them longer.

Comments about Hoya 72mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:
Very nice filter. It is clear, and you can adjust the amount of polarization by turning a ring. I use it outdoors on a 35mm f/1.4L that I also bought on B & H.

I never leave home without a Circular Polarizer on all of my lens. I have tried other brand polarizers, but the Hoya is the best for the dollar amount spent.

Comments about Hoya 72mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:
Not sure if it is any better or worse than other brands but seems to do the trick. It is pricey and I wish it had come with a case. Just got back from using it in Italy where it was sunny, sunny, sunny. Did what it was supposed to do. Mine worked great as far as screwing in and out. Saw some other reviews that seemed to have troubles.

Comments about Hoya 72mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:
I shoot a lot of beach-based weddings, and I was hoping that this filter would give me skies with deeper blues...however I find it a little 'lightweight' in it's ability to cut down glare and deepen colors, when compared to a cheaper item I've used in the past. Overall not that happy with it.

Comments about Hoya 72mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:
I've used other polarizing filters and they produce a soft focus however, hoya produces a crisp focus. The saturation of colours is amazing. I usually dont put more glass in front of my sensor but this is the exception.

Comments about Hoya 72mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter:
I was looking for polarizing filter, that could make the sky deep blue and make reflections gone away and plus to fit to my wide 15-85mm canon lens. It has done more than I can expect. The quality is perfect for this price, sky is wonderful, no vigneting in 15mm end. 100% satisfaction.
