Tamron 62mm Skylight 1A Filter - Due to its light pink color, the skylight (1A) reduces the bluish cast of daylight and produces a pleasing, warmer picture tone. Wise initial investments, they help protect your lens from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.
If desired they can be left on at all times for protection. Skylight filters provide additional benefits of correction for Ultraviolet(UV) light which can register on film and videotape as a bluish cast and can obscure distant details. Also used to reduce the bluish cast common with some electronic flash units.

I have read some positive and negative reviews about using filters. Many people say they aren't really needed. Even if the sole purpose is to avoid damaging a $400 lens then I guess it was worth it.

It's a mild filter that also protects your expensive lens from dirt and scratches. Well worth the investment. Screws on/off and doesn't affect your lens cap at all. Put it on and forget about it!
