A very solid tripod

Comments about Davis & Sanford Compact Gear Tripod (Black) with F12 2-Way Fluid Head (Quick Release) - Supports 12.00 lb (5.44 kg):

I have had my Compact Gear tripod for about 11 months now. I bought it along with a Pro Vista tripod at the same time to do weddings and family video. The Compact Gear tripod is a very good tripod based on the size, weight and stability of the legs. The F-12 fluid head is pretty good too although it can take a little practise to use it smoothly. In comparison to the Pro Vista, it is smaller, lighter and sets up much more quickly. So, I pretty much never use the Pro Vista except for indoor totally stationary work. It's just to big & bulky.I moved to the Compact Gear from an aluminum tripod and there is no comparison between a compact aluminum tripod and this. My video is so much better this days. All in all, a highly recommended tripod. I use it with the JVC GR HD1 and Canon XH A1. Although its a bit of overkill for DSLR use, it is still not quite too big/heavy and it is a TOTALLY steady camera platform. FYI, this is not something you would ever hike with.

Problems Encountered: My only problem experienced was a stripped out thread on a minor component (the slider to lock the legs in place on the center tube). These have a ten year warranty. Davis & Sanford is really a Tiffen company so I sent it to them for repair. Very slow & poor customer service from Tiffen.Even so, I still highly recommend it. A good value! The only reason I gave it 3 stars on item #5 was the Tiffen customer service.

Previous Equivalent Items Owned: Cheap aluminum tripods, Pro Vista tripod.

Items I Recommend: Get a cheap bag and another one or two quick release plates.
