I was pretty shocked how good this lens was. i bought it for filming my round the world trip. i needed something that could be stolen, lost, damaged and and not matter at all so price was important!! mounted on my panasonic gs 230 it really works well as a wide angle lens although the edges get a little soft and diffused when completely zoomed out but its a very minor draw back for the price. Apart from the edges it also sharpened the image improving the cameras own lens and also improving the colour slightly as as it lets in alot more light than my onboard lens. well worth the money. perfect for my needs.

Didn't have too high expectations given the price for the lens. But I found that it wasn't really usable for me.
At the lowest zoom, the edges of the lens shows up on the video. At the highest zoom, there is just too much blur. I can adjust it to mid zoom, but that would give me the same field of vision as if I didn't use the lens, so what was the point.

This lens works perfect for my DIY interchangeable lens mount. I have an iPhone 4s and use it for HD video. I needed a wide lens for it so I made my own lens mount and now its like having a 17mm on my iPhone. Check out my web site to see it in use. trinityfxmg.com

I recommend you use it only when neccesery for wide angle, othewise you will loose shrpness at HD Cams.
Very good quality for a cheap lens.

Comments about Kenko SGW-05 37mm 0.5x Wide Angle Converter Lens:
The construction of this lens is substantial and quality made. The optics in wide to medium zoom are fantastic. The only weakness I have noticed is when you zoom really far in to get a head and shoulders shot the image is somewhat blurry, though not terrible. I assume this is the nature of these lenses though. We use this to broadcast and record high school games and it works great on both SD and HD camcorders.

Comments about Kenko SGW-05 37mm 0.5x Wide Angle Converter Lens:
Using this converter with the same JVC Everio HD camcorder as a previous reviewer, and I echo his comments. This camcorder can't zoom "wide" enough for good results in medium- or smaller-sized rooms, and the converter helps greatly. Looks like it was made for the camcorder when mounted. Seems well-constructed and well-finished.

I needed some inexpensive Wide angle lenses for a couple of old Digital 8 Sony camcorders, I still use. I have to video our band from up close, so I needed a way to get more picture onto the video, without a super high cost. These Kenko SGW-05, 37mm did a very good job for the money.

I use this lens with my Sony HDR-SR11 and it works terrificly! It makes the view much wider. The only complaint is that there is a teeny bit of distortion on the sides of the lens but it is merely unnoticable

Works awesome on my JVC Eviro GZ-HM320....no vignette at all, comes with lens cap, and a great price...quality doesn't suffer much, if any....gets a LITTLE blurry when zoomed in...but let's be honest, you didn't buy this lens to zoom in with...if you needed to zoom in you'd just use the built in zoom, without the wide angle adapter.....this product makes the view wider, which when you cant back up any further, this lens is a life saver...

It decreases the distance of the lens but expand the width of the surrounding. Exactly what the product mentioned

Comments about Kenko SGW-05 37mm 0.5x Wide Angle Converter Lens:
I have a Canon Vixia HF100 camcorder and one of the only problems that I've found with this lens is that when fully zoomed out, the lens is caught in the corners of the frame. It doesn't appear while filming or taking a picture but when put on the computer it shows up. When fully zoomed in, the picture becomes unclear and a little hazy. Despite the slight drawback, the picture is clear. Looks nice and a great price comparatively.

For the price, this is a great lens.I use this lens on a Canon HF20 for action sports filming. Widens up the angle nicely without causing any distortion of the final footage. Crisp and clear picture. All around good lens.

I bought this auxilliary lens becauase a prior reviewer rated it highly for his Panasonic PV-GS150, the exact camcorder that I have. Just like his review, this lens is basically distortion free wth no vignetting. I can zoom the full rante and still have sharp video. I would recommend this to anyone.

i own a Canon Vixia HG20 and film just about everything with it.
whether its gymnastics, skateboarding, snowboarding, marching band, etc. i use the lense a ton.
although it does get a LITTLE fuzzy when zooming in more than half.
and it cuts off the teeeeniest bit at the bottom left corner, it doesnt matter after i run it through sony vegas.
i completely recommend this if your looking for a wide angle.
OR [my favorite part]
if you put a filter on first[cpl, uv, etc] then the wide-angle, it gives you a wonderful fish-eye feel.
two lenses for one!

Comments about Kenko SGW-05 37mm 0.5x Wide Angle Converter Lens:
I'm new to video, especially HD, and this is my first lens purchase for my Canon Vixia HF10 (an excellent camera btw!)I've only spent a little bit of time with this lens and the quality seems to be good, although when viewed in my editing program (Vegas Movie Studio Platinum) both corners on the right side of the image are black and a little "fisheye" effect is visable. I don't see this when viewing on the camera, but only when viewed in my editor. Of course this can easily be cropped out of the picture - but then that defeats the purpose of the wide angle. :-)I do have to say that this was my first purchase from B & H though and I was really impressed [...] I'll definitely be ordering from them again!

I couldn't have asked for a better lens for the price. It adds enough to the pictures width to really make a difference. As for people who have mentioned the black showing up in the corners I have had no problems like that. I use it with my Canon Optura 40 and it works great and the picture looks great.

Comments about Kenko SGW-05 37mm 0.5x Wide Angle Converter Lens:
I'm using this on a Canon HF100 and it makes the zoom range much more reasonable, from a ~40mm field of view (35 mm equiv) to a better ~20 mm, which is getting towards wide angle. The lens looks good on the camcorder, sticks out a bit. It's well built, and comes with lens caps. Optically it's sufficient; significant barrel distortion on the wide end, and a large loss in resolution at maximum telephoto (but it's not bad, just back up a tad and the image is fine again). There is a bit of vignetting when the camcorder is in 'photo' mode, but none in video mode.

It's not going to be a super wide angle lens that you'd find on professional DSLR cameras, but it works like it should by providing additional coverage on my Canon Vixia HF100 camcorder.

Comments about Kenko SGW-05 37mm 0.5x Wide Angle Converter Lens:
I purchased the lens for my Panasonic PV GS 150. The lens is a perfect match for the camera and it’s reasonably solid in construction.
Performance wise it will never disappoint you. I took some test shots in bright day light which were amazing. But inside the room shooting in available light you will notice dark edges at the extreme wide angle settings.
If you shoot lot of outdoors this is a worth buy and it’s a really value for money.
