Leica 1.25x Viewfinder Magnifier for M Cameras
The Leica Viewing Magnifier M 1.25x is a small and practical accessory for all Leica M rangefinder cameras. By enlarging the viewfinder image by twenty-five percent, it facilitates image composition when using lenses with focal lengths of 50mm and upwards. At the same time, it also improves focusing accuracy by expanding the effective measuring base. Especially useful for the M line since the different viewfinder models offer different magnification ratios.
Made of black anodized aluminium, the viewing magnifier is screwed into the camera eyepiece. It also has a thread for correction lenses to compensate for vision defects.
The small accessory is secured with a chain and connected to the camera eyelet with spring catches. The viewing magnifier can be kept in its leather case with snap fastener and attached to the camera strap when not in use. The magnifier is thereby protected and is easily accessible whenever required.

I was having some trouble getting accurate and repeatable focussing when using the 90mm and 50mm Leica lenses. My eyes are 53 years old. So they just aren't what they used to be.
I now keep this image magnifier on my M9 at all times, even when shooting with the 28 and 35mm lenses. With the magnifier in place, the 35mm frame lines are just barely visible in the viewfinder. For the 28mm lens, I just use the 18mm external viewfinder mounted on the top of the camera. I just imagine some bright lines a little inside the 24mm bright lines in this viewfinder.
If you're having trouble getting repeatable, accurate focussing with longer lenses, I highly recommend this well made, but expensive Leica gadget.

I use this magnifier on an M9 fitted with a 50mm Summilux lens. It's a perfect combination. The 50 mm frame line is at the viewfinder's limit for eyeglass wearers, but that's a plus. The 50 mm image just about fills the viewfinder. You become unaware that the magnifier is on the camera. It just makes focussing that much easier for tired old eyes like mine.
This product is jewel-like; made with superb quality.
I took the cord off the magnifiier and put it away with the leather case for safe keeping. I love this device!
