I've owned one of these for over 20 years and I have recommended them to anyone who needs a ultralight weight, sturdy desktop tripod. The velcro strap is useful to secure it to railings, chairs, and even on occassion another tripod's leg (to get a couple of cameras on a group portrait. I have even used it with a Brunton Transit (compass) to do some impromptu surveying.

Over the years I have abused this thing unmercifully and it keeps on ticking. The plastic it is made of is sturdy and tough. And after 20 years the velcro is a bit ragged, but it still works great.

The only gripe is that with a long unbalanced lens you have to carefully position the legs to make it stable....

This compact tripod was purchaseed to be used with a (heavy) DSLR with mid-length zoom lens when a full size tripod is inconvenient, e.g., travelling. Most compact tripods are intended for use with smaller, lighter, point & shoot type cameras, and cannot safely support a DSLR. This tripod is rated for up to 4 lb. load which is necessary for this camera system. So far it seems to firmly support the camera with lens on flat, horizontal suface, although it hasn't been fully field tested yet.

It is equipped with a tilt head that seems reasonably secure. It fits in the camera bag, although at an odd angle due to it being slightly longer than lighter duty units.

One disappointment is that it is made of plastic, not aluminum, so ruggedness may be an issue.

      Comments about Ultrapod #2 Black:

      - Purchased tripod for a cycle touring trip and wanted something small & light yet still strong enough to support the 18-200mm lens.
      - Had used original Ultrapod for years with a point & shoot with great results.
      - Worked well. Was able to fit it in small camera bag and front handle bar bag along with camera.
      - Was able to strap camera to bike handle to capture some video while riding.
      - Had to arrange camera so lens was over main leg of tripod - then it was strong enough to support the camera & lens. It would have no problems supporting a smaller lens.

                Comments about Ultrapod #2 Black:

I bought this because it was cheap and well reviewed. At first I was surprised that it was almost all molded plastic, but very light. I realized that anything heavier than a Canon F-1 w/50/1.2 might cause some problems. Two of the folding legs are quite flimsy as they're really just reinforced flat plastic bars. The head is "just good enough" for what the pod will hold, which isn't that much.

In any case, I've found that it works superlatively as a chest pod. I'll use my Leica table-pod for "real" tripod work.

This is a great portable tripod. I used to have a 1, but can't seem to find it.

The 2 is larger than the 1 and probably best for SLR's with a longer lense or a larger video recorder.

It is bigger than needed for my Kodak PlaySport.

The ability to strap it to items is also nice, but they need to be at least 2 inches in diameter

                      Can handle a Canon T1i with a 55-250mm Lens.

I permanently mounted a Benro quickrelease head plate to it so I could quickly interchange my camera from my standard tripod to the Ultrapod II.

I also use it to mount a remote flash on.
                      Works flawlessly...

There are times when a small, sturdy, and light support will save the shot, and this is the guy. Easily sets up with a small camcorder. I've also been using it with an eos 7d with success. Stronger than the older, smaller version I've had for 25 years.

Worked perfect with my Sony NEX, so I'm assuming would work great for any other light, small body/lens combination. I bought it specifically to take shots at night on a trip to NYC and worked like a charm. Like any mini-tripod with non-adjustable legs, this item works best on a flat surface....trying to balance it on an uneven surface (i.e. large bolders) can be tricky.

I like to explore the woods and waterways with my Panasonic LX5, often using it as a notebook for future exploration. Having a small lightweight Ultrapod #2 that straps onto just about anything under 6" diameter is a real boon. Trees, dead branches, just about anything caan make a sturdy tripod substitute. And the Ultrapod #2 is a convenient little pod for rocks, table tops, cars and super good for very low angle shots. And, bucking the trend, it's USA made to boot. Great little tripod. It won't support a heavy camera, but it's not designed to.

I have to admit I had doubts about anything that's constructed out of plastic. This thing just feels solid and light! A bit larger than the original so it's not exactly pocket-size but I love how it looks and works and that's enough for me!It is perfect for setting on a bridge and taking a beautiful night shot of the "river-scape". I did try strapping the sucker to a tree branch also. Although it seemed pretty sturdy, I wouldn't risk it with a big SLR camera. My point and shoot works pretty well strapped to a tree :)Overall, this thing rocks. Thanks BH!

Bought this for my speedlights to be able to carry in my camera bag with my sony flash, and still be able to use the flash off camera. My wireless adapter for my sony flash has the 1/4-20 thread in the bottom so it works perfect. As well nice to have to even be able to mount my sony a300 on it if need be. Can easily fit in my camera bag, front pocket wouldn't be too bad if needed.

Simple, sturdy and light. Everything I wanted in a mini tripod. I am not easy to please, my other tripods are Manfrotto and Gitzo carbon fibre models, but this little wonder is well worth the money. Highly recommended!

Prefer this over the gorilla's and can't ask for more than that for the price!

I've got several for all my 1/4-20 flashes, cams and gear.

                                        Very sturdy construction.

I used it with my 7D and 15-85mm IS lens and it worked very well.

It's also very cheap and folds up nicely to fit inside just about any bag, I'd wager.
