I needed to solve a strange little problem: I wanted to mount a small light source that has a cold-shoe base onto a small tripod -- and I couldn't find the right thingamajig to mate the two until I found this. I don't use the lower part, I just screwed the shoe fitting right onto the 4/20 tripod screw -- and presto: problem solved!

I used it to hold my flash on top of my pocket wizard's Flex TT5 which is attached to a Custom Bracket's CB Junior so I don't have to deal with the cord between the camera and the flash.

This well-made shoe attachment is best used with the Pro-M series of Custom Brackets flash brackets. It can also be used on the QRS series, but it does not fit as well on the Junior or folding brackets (the flash-rotating type). It is NOT a substitute for the standard flash or flash cord holders. I have used it for a second flash holder, setting the first flash unit to Master and the second to Slave. One could obtain a Y cable with two flash shoes, but it is not necessary. The cold shoe can also be used for a flash transmitter such as the types made by Canon or for a Pocket Wizard transceiver. The shoe attaches firmly with a supplied 1/4 x 20 screw.

I have had problems trying to adjust my flash on it. The cold shoe does not keep the flash locked or secured. It can fall with the slightest movement.

This cold shoe does exactly what I needed it to do without complication. It holds my Microsynch transmitter wired to my cameras PC socket and triggering a stand mounted studio strobe so that I can keep the TTL strobe in the flash mount of my custom bracket.
This is the simplest solution to my wedding reception lighting dilemma!
