Focusrite TrakMaster Pro - Single Channel Microphone Preamp with Instrument Input, Optical Compressor and EQ
The TrakMaster Pro from Focusrite is a single channel, high quality microphone preamp that includes problem-solving mid-scoop EQ, an intuitive optical compressor and latency-free monitoring. The unit is the ideal choice for the recording or mixing of a mono signal, whether it's a vocal track or a bass guitar.
The microphone preamp design delivers low noise and distortion without coloration and provides phantom power for working with condenser microphones. A high pass filter can help in removing rumble. The front panel instrument input allows guitars and basses to utilize the unit as a DI box, while a "Low Impedance" switch (for utilizing with low-output impedance microphones) brings further sound options to the recording process.
The TrakMaster Pro includes a vintage optical compressor circuit, capable of really heavy compression effects. A mid-scoop EQ section, with two different cut depths and an adjustable frequency control, provides further control over the presence and balance of the processed signal.
A latency-free monitor feature has the capacity to monitor tracked signals within the mix directly at source, thus avoiding having to monitor via the DAW or digital desk. A headphone or monitor mix can be created for either the artist or the engineer, with immediate tactile control over levels

Comments about Focusrite TrakMaster Pro Channel Strip:
This unit starts with a clean pre amp with enough gain for my ribbon mic. The compresser can squash you like a bug if so desired but the eq is very basic. Front panel inputs are a plus.
