There are a lot of companies out there selling replacement foam that fits the pelican cases. This is the OEM pick and pluck foam from pelican. It offers equipment protection like pelican intended it to. I turned an old 1490 laptop case into a camera case for [$].

Fit right in the case, was great not to have to cut and fit foam that was not correct size. Bought two sets one for myself and one for my daughter, she's using it as a Computer case. The only drawback is picking and plucking the foam, I did not want to go all the way thru so had to mark out and pick and pluck for about two hours. If Pelican made the picking pieces a bit larger like 1" square or even 2" square would have saved me time and some precious sanity. Overall it's exactly what I had needed to put the 2 cases to good use.

I needed the top foam piece, and wanted an extra bottom piece so I could use the case for multiple things and just swap out of the foam depending on what I wanted to bring, so this is literally, exactly what I wanted. The only way I would have improved it, would be to have an additional foam piece for two, say a pack that had one top, and three bottoms? Otherwise, no complaints fits perfectly.

Had two 1490's that held microphones & drum parts,in another life....realized they were idle & empty in the attic.
Got 'em out,dusted 'em off,ordered replacement O-rings & (2) #1491 3 piece P&P foam sets....to top it off: Customer Service @ Pelican sent me new keys,free!
Now they are home to my better knives,multitools,firestarters, flashlights,a small camera....and one Wesson each: a Dan & a Smith!
The ONLY thing I would change about these cases is: I could really use one more!

the top foam came in 2 sections. A thin piece and then the egg crate type foam underneath. I would have preferred just 1 piece but no big deal as I took some Sobo fabric glue and glued them together. The bottom piece I customized for my DSLR shooting. I first tried to mix and match foam I already had on hand but realized it was a lot less trouble and work to just buy the replacement foam from B&H. Glad it was available, it fits perfectly.

Use the foam in my Pelican 1490 case to support sensitive electronic gear. Over time the original foam inserts have deteriorated due to constant use.
The set fit perfectly - replaced top and bottom - cutout the requisite shapes for my gear using the pick and pluck mid-foam element - excellent!
